Wonderstuff
In case you hadn’t noticed, life has a curious way of providing the ups and downs that identify good times and bad. And if you are as I am, an apprentice Apostle, you may have read in the Bible that regardless of what is going on your life, we know that it is for the good. It is a plan for life, that God has for each and every one of us and when things are bleak and dark looking, God is there. And if we should find ourselves on top of the world, God also is with us. And as the studying apprentice I am, I know that my responsibility to all these happenings is to give thanks and praise for the superhighways He places me on as well as the dirty and dusty roads I have traveled.
The Waiting song for this month is called It’s a Wonder (Wonderstuff), it is from the Blue Belly Sky album.. It is a lyrical cacophony of things from the composers life, well, that makes them wonder. I am sure that many of us, could agree, or add to the list, as all of us have that quality of inquisitiveness inside of us. When I listened to the song, looking for the inspiration to write, the idea came on the first listen through. It is in the bridge, that I am moved to comment.
Along with the melodious valleys of wonders that include painted avenues, holes in shoes, houses for sale and beds of nails, comes a wonderful bridge of hope. As we worry about the confluence of issues that life can bring, tossed about as high winds blow and as deep waters flow; bills, interpersonal relationships, decisions, and the ones listed as wonderstuff, all strike similar nerves. The frustrations, disappoints and heartaches begin to morph into one, becoming the sight and sound of a roaring thunder. Incorrect or short term fixes to the problems will leave you weak with wonder at both your inability and at the hope that lies within all of this. It is in the greatest roar of that thunder, we become too weak to continue the fight and struggle.
Then in the chaos of it comes a calmness of winds, of waters, as the wonder of Jesus, takes control. In His appearance, we are under a river flow of rain. Under a river of life flow of the peace that reigns supreme, when we lay our burdens at His feet.
This is the wonder we need to grow weak at. No matter the depth of our troubles, He will never leave or forsake us. He is always there, static yesterday, today and tomorrow, dynamic in that all the solutions to our problems, all the answers to our questions are solved by the apprenticeship we all are undertaking.
The mockery that is in the composition of this song, should not escape us. After the bridge in the last few lines, as the song pokes fun at the time we expend dealing with all of life’s cruelties and uncertainties wondering how we don’t fall. Wondering how one so caught up in the distant thunder can think at all. The mockery is that we cannot, we are powerless to discover the complexities of life without the limitless understanding and compassion Christ has for u"s.
