UPCLOSE 2001 TOUR REVIEWS

BEACON THEATER

NEW YORK

March 1, 2001

The first of two FABULOUS shows at the Beacon Theatre here in New York City! This was an amazing show! My friend and I had Row W in the orchestra section, which was a little far from the stage but just fine with us as long as we could see NICK & SIMON (Our Favorite Band members!) We were so excited! It was a fantastic show, Although I don't remember the EXACT order of the set list (When I get it I will post it here in my review!), one of the MAJOR highlights was definately when they played the song "Michael, You've Got Alot To Answer For", this was written for Simon's friend Michael Hutchence of INXS, who died. I NEVER thought I would EVER hear this song again! The only time we had ever heard it, was when we were at the Roseland show in November of 1997 for the MEDAZZALAND TOUR! And it was AMAZING! We got to hear it again tonight! I was totally in shock that they played it again! The band looked AMAZING! NICK was wearing a black suit with a black & white printed shirt and a red tie! OOOOOOOOOO baby! (lol!) Simon had on an off-white shirt and beige pants. I do remember later on in the show he was wearing one of the tour t-shirts which was very cool! Anyway, it was a GREAT night! We had such a fantastic time and enjoyed every second of seeing our favorite men on earth light up that stage! They played all the great ones! including one particular track I really wanted to hear this time around "Electric Barbarella!" YAY! I was happy that they played that one! They also played "I don't want your love" which my friend had never heard live! so that was a great experience for her! and they played "Union of the Snake" which was another one she had never heard live! And she was loving it as much as I was! we were so excited and the emotions kept on flowing! we could not wait until the second show! we were partying bigtime! It was such an unbelieveable show, and we had a GREAT time! Thanks guys! I love you FOREVER!....Now on to Night number two! (lol!)

NEW YORK

Night number two! Yes! We were front row center tonight! WOO HOO!!!! (lol!) We had decided to stand at the backstage door to see if we could spot them coming in before the show, and we waited for like three hours for them until they FINALLY showed up! and through the DETERMINATION of my friend and I, she was the one who had kept my energy up while I was standing there freezing to death!!!! lol! and we got to see them walk in and took FAB pics of them! I will never stop thanking her for all the positive energy she was giving me through a very uncomfortable three hours! lol! that because, I DESPERATELY needed to go inside and get warm! lol! But she had MADE us stand there, and believe me in the end it was SO WORTH THE WAIT!!!! I will NEVER stop thanking her! She is the GREATEST!!!! Thanks STARR! Anyway, when we got inside we had found our seats and we were so "UPCLOSE" it was DELICIOUS!!!! I had brought my camera and was determined to take pictures! and I achieved my goal, of course not without arguing with stupid security people but I still took FAB pics! lol! despite all the INTERFERENCE! (no pun intended! lol!) We were so psyched for this show! THE MEN looked yum yum! NICK in a purple suit and blue shirt and SIMON wearing purple pants and a brown shirt, later he changed to a black gitter shirt as my friend let me know! (lol!) they looked so amazing! This show was AWESOME!!!!!!!! They played "Michael" again which was PERFECT and the MAJOR highlight of this performance was that they were joined on stage by Nile Rogers for performances of "Notorious" and "Skin Trade" This was CLASSIC! You will NEVER see a moment like that again! I mean WOW!!!! I was in awe of it all! It was fabulous! I was so amazed! What a brilliant performance! I just want to say thank you to the band for such a fantastic and beautiful show and that I can't wait to do it all again SOON! Can't wait too long to see them you know! lol! lol! And as I close another perfect tour with a perfect band, I will say Peace, Love, and you will forever be "UpClose and Personal" in my heart and in my mind! I love you DURAN DURAN forever!

A Poem By Nick Rhodes

Poem taken from the 2001 "Pop Trash" Tour Book

Shrouded
under a tear stained sky, no space left to advertise, try to keep something for yourself -but you know it belongs to everyone else. Blow away clouds of dust to find the detail you thought was lost. What do you have to show, tell me how much do you know? or are you still staring at the same view? Where nothing has changed except for you.
