Feature Race - 20 Laps, DNF - 20th Place I started 13th in the 23 car field. As the race got under way I was stuck in the middle of a logjam. Everyone was running side by side and passing was nearly impossible. The car was very quick but there just wasn’t any room to move forward. Then just as the field started to spread out the #73 hit me from behind. I spun exiting turn 2 and was hit by several other cars. I had no serious damage but my bumper was dragging, so I exited the track to have it changed. Unfortunately by the time we repaired it the race was already under way and we were 2 laps down. So I decided to call it a night and park the car. We’ll try again next week. I watched point leader Rick Losh pick up his 1st win of the season from the grandstands. Congrat’s See you at the track. We started running to our pit as Bryan exited the track. But then the comedy of errors started. The crew chief runs to the pit, Bryan drives to the track entry gate for us to assess the damage, and thinking Bryan may go to track entry gate and since Rich was well ahead of me getting to the pit, I cut my run short and go back to the track entry gate. By the time I got there, someone was trying to rip off Bryan's hanging front bumper. That not working and since you need a front bumper to race, someone else tries to duct tape the bumper to the car. Well that's no good either, so I sent Bryan to our pit area so we could change the bumper. This was my mistake, I should have sent him to the track welder to tack on the floppy bumper so he could rejoin the race. Once back in the pits, we were ill prepared. I didn't lay out the bumpers like I normally do, and yea, I missed on the air hose too which sat neatly coiled around the compressor. Then struggling in the dark, lights, who needs lights, we were too long in changing the bumper. By then Bryan said to call it quits as we were now too many laps down and there was no need to rejoin the race with a car that was still in question. The grill was pushed in and the front end alignment was knocked out. The comedy of errors was over and we quietly packed up our gear. | |
