 Heat Race - No Heats

The Nascar Featherlite Modified Series was in town this weekend. A big crowd was on hand for the evening’s event, Nascar Featherlite Modified 150. The Featherlite cars practiced all day leaving a thick coat of their tire compound on the track surface. The track was extremely greasy and unpredictable. Our lap times during hot laps were slower than normal by over ½ second. Our cars just wouldn’t hook up.

 Feature Race - 20 Laps, 4th Place

I started 8th on the outside of row 4. When the race began I was hung up on the outside and dropped one or two spots, but as the field singled out I began to move forward. But the race pace was very slow and the front cars were running side by side. There just wasn’t room to make many moves. Furthermore the outside groove was really slick from the Featherlite cars so getting around the outside was tougher than usual.

I had one close call when #64 Ronnie Poley spun in turn two. The #04 Mitch Brudy (former Pro stock driver) who was directly in front of me made contact with the #64. I narrowly avoided both cars on the outside. The last few laps were very tight. I worked the outside for the last few laps and came just short of 3rd. It was a good night.

Congrat’s to Frank Polimeda on his 2nd win of the season. This win should also put him in the points lead.

See you at the track.

 Post Scripts - Roy

Saturday morning our car was still dead as we chased the electrical problem that prevented the car from running. I kept telling Bryan this is going to make a great story, “Dead car in the morning and we come back to win the feature race in the evening.” Well, we didn’t win but a 4th place finish is still a good run.

I have never seen tires look as bad as they did in today’s practice sessions. All the junk (from the Featherlite cars) on the tires made for slower lap times. The track changed radically from one session to the next, all depending on who and how many laps were run before our session. We were a loss as to what to do to the car because the track changed so much.

But all in all, driver and car in one piece, my criteria for a good night, and we finished in 4th place.

Frank Polimeda of Fort Lee, who also competes here in the Modified division, won the 20-lapper for the Legend Cars after starting seventh. Mike Stull of Hamilton was the early leader of the contest until Polimeda caught him and then raced into the lead with an inside lane pass on lap ten.

From then on Polimeda raced to his second win of the year, while Mike Stull held on for second with Steve Stull finishing a tight third. Brick's Bryan Gardella and Rich Losh of Joppa, Md. were fourth and fifth.
