Team play earns Sewell 1st Cup ever
Despite the absence of several key players, Sewell put together another great effort to run off with the 32nd Annual James R. Moyer Cup Championship. Mike Payne returned in fine fashion by depositing an infection-footed volley into the upper right netting. Payne took a Nick Pittaoulis flick and made no mistakes with it. Tim Keegan, later in the first half, drew a Penalty kick for an able Alex Torres. Torres had perfectly lifted the ball over the Moorestown defense before Keegan was taken down in the box. The two goal lead carried until late in the second half when Moorestown took advantage of one of the few Sewell mistakes in the back. Sewell held on for the final 15 minutes of regulation as they refused to yield to the surging opponent. Jim Kay and his wife will host the team for a Saturday, August 19th celebration before heading into the off-season. If you need directions, check your email. If you did not receive a email, contact Jim Kay or Carl Heil. The festivities are planned for 4PM on... See you all there!
Cup Championship Game vs. Moorestown SC 'A'
I am torn to pick a game ball recipient... While I feel that Kevin Hartwyk was an absolutely dominant presence all over the field, I think Kevin Nuss was instrumental in preserving the win with several great and timely saves in goal.. and then there's Dave Heil who seemed to be thwarting every offensive attack that came his way. Then I begin to consider the play of every player that showed up on this night and I can't help but realize that every player that stepped on the field in Sewell navy was a contributor. Each player gave everything that was expected and MORE! For Mike Payne to even be playing, let alone tallying a 'beaut' of a goal. For Tim Keegan to step on the pitch after a long vacation and play many productive minutes. Then we've got Nick Pittaoulis doing what he has done all season. And our backs (Drew Watson, Kenji Roberts and Paul Heil) getting the job done, especially down the stretch. This was the type of game that had been getting away from us early in the season. Then there's Mike Lodge, Alex Torres, Karlyle Adams, Rudy Mazzocca and YES... Andy Nino. From offensive possession and pressure, to defensive recovery. And let's not forget Jimmy Kay... from shutout goalkeeping to semi-skilled forward play to BBQ king. Yes, this team effort went as deep as having each keeper taking minutes on the field to give others a rest. I think it is fair to say, this team has come a long, long way. Another great team performance! Gentlemen, Thank you (for letting me be a part of this) and Congrats (on pulling together to make this happen)!
A great thanks goes out to 'The MRK Group' (Tim Keegan), 'EMC Promotions' (Kevin Nuss) and 'Joe's Pizza of Mullica Hill' (Carl Heil) for their financial support of the team. Anyone interested in sponsoring the team (it is tax deductible), please contact the team representative. Division One Champions '98, '99, '01, '04, '05
