Welcome
to Mr. Polanco's Web Page A page designed for
teachers and students as reference for the curriculum material on science
and math. The following projects and activities are created to be
used during the school year. Teachers and students can choose any
of the links on this page according to their grade level to enrich the
science-math activities in their classroom. The importance of this
web page is that all activities and school projects always focus on the
great link that exists between these two subjects in real life.

Yomare Polanco is a very successful science specialist
with an outstanding academic and professional background and a high proficiency
in all of the sciences, math, and Internet technology. He is a chemical
engineer specialized in food and pharmaceutical industries, who has chosen
to teach after spending several years working in management positions for
the industry. He is certified in Elementary Education and in High
School Chemistry, Physics, and General Science. He holds a Masters
Degree in Engineering and is obtaining his Masters Degree in School Administration
and Leadership. At the present time, Mr. Polanco is a science specialist
for the New Brunswick School District in New Jersey, U.S.A. As a
Teacher Mentor, he has developed, organized, and presented technical assistance
and professional development workshops to other colleagues. As a
teacher, he has been awarded by many national and international educational
and industrial organizations. Some of them are:
In April of 1997, recipient of The Dodge Fellowship Award.
In August of 1999, awarded by StudyWeb for the SunpHlower web site (along
with the members of "Sunflower Gang").
In January of 2000, awarded by NJ BISEC (The New Jersey Business/Industry/
Science Education Consortium) for the interdisciplinary school projects
“Biochemistry of the Flour” and “Wire, Wire, and More Wire.”
In April 2000, Awarded by the National Science Teacher Association and
Toyota Motor Sale to receive the Prestigious US$10,000.00 –The 2000 Toyota
Tapestry Award.
In May 2000: Awarded by the State of New Jersey and the National Science
Teacher Association with the 2000 Presidential Award for excellence in
teaching math and science.
In June 2000: Awarded by the Center for Improved Engineering and Science
Education through the Internet Impact Award.
In July 2000: Recognized for The Organization for Latino Advancement, Inc.
as an outstanding educator and role model to the children of our community.
As a community leader, Yomare Polanco founded in 1996,
and is the actual president of The Dominican American Society, which is
an organization that helps people from Dominican Republic make the transition
into life in the USA.
In addition, he has served as a member of the Science Leadership Team
of New Brunswick Public Schools. He has been part of the 1999 Leadership
and Assistance for Science Education Reform K-8 promoted by the Bristol-Myers
Squibb Company, and the 1998 Central Jersey Science/Math Consortium - a
consortium of teachers dedicated to improving the quality of math and science
education.
