Welcome to what was the exciting world of River Rats Hockey. The River Rats Hockey Club was
formed in 1996 by player/coach Reggie Dunlap after his former team, the Charlestown Chiefs,
folded at the old "War Memorial Auditorium". They played nine scheduled seasons over the
next five years, made the playoffs eight of nine times, finished first twice, and played in the
finals three times. Unfortunetly they never won the cup but none the less their history was rich
in tradition, excitement, and some great players. Due to a poorly run league and a mis-managed
rink at American Hockey in Wall, NJ, Reggie has decided to disband the team rather than play
under dangerous conditions. The River Rats may re-emerge in the future but never at American
Hockey so long as present leadership is in control. At his final press conference Reggie was
quoted as saying, "the safety of my players overrides my desire to play hockey. At American Hockey
I did not feel that my players were safe while on the ice!" Thank you to all the supporters of
River Rats Hockey. It is a great sport and it's a shame that some in a position of authority are
allowed to ruin it. Reggie Dunlap
