Proposed Flyouts for 2001

Our Next Flyouts

Saturday and Sunday

February 10th and February 11th

B18 - Annual Ice Fly-In, Alton Bay, NH

The Alton Bay Flying Club, EAA 917, will hold its annual Winter Fly-In On Ice (weather permitting) on the ice runway at B18, 8 AM to 2 PM. A pancake breakfast will be available from 8 AM to 11:30 AM. For more information call Bill W. at 603/875-5881 or Bill G. at 603/859-7900. Several of our members have attended this fly-in the past 2 years and had a great time. Alton Bay is unique in that it is the only state and federal licensed facility that is a registered ice airport in the winter and a sea plane base in the summer. The Alton Bay Flying Club, which maintains runway 1/19, has been in existence and plowing the strip since 1982. The runway is open all winter if the ice is thick enough, but the big event is the fly-in. Last year nearly 300 planes arrived. For photos and more info, see Plane & Pilot, January 2001, page 55..

Not everyone will want to land on ice, so we will also have a fly-out on Sunday. Some may go to both if the weather is good.

WBW - Wyoming Valley Airport, Wyoming, PA

Wyoming Valley is a nice untowered airport that is about 7 miles SW of Wilkes-Barre International. Lets meet for lunch at the Colonial Pancake House and Restaurant which is noted for its Buffalo steaks and hamburgers. It is located right across the street from the airport entrance.  If your wondering why the Colonial came to specialize in Buffalo burgers, its because the Wyoming Valley area is home to six large buffalo ranches. Buffalo meat is considered the best tasting, most tender, as well as the the lowest in calories and the highest in protein of all red meat.

We had great weather for our January fly-out to The Gabreski. I counted 12 planes and 22 people from MAPA. We nearly filled Belle's Cafe, and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. Lynn brought along "Gabby", a book on the life of this flying ace of World War II and Korea for whom the field is named. Her father new him and the book contains his autograph. She also had several letters and other autographed items. Get to see them if you can.

We hope to see you there!!!!

Need a ride or more information?

Remember, if you don't own a plane, try to bum a ride with someone who does or just rent one but come and join the fun.  If you need any more information or want to see if you could hookup with a ride, just fill out the following form and submit it to our flyout captain Fred Singer.  Once you submit the info Fred will follow through on your request.

Also, remember that the fly-outs are the pilot-in-command's decision for a go, no-go situation and that all fly-outs are voluntary participation.
