DR. JEFFREY GEIGER

Dr. Jeffrey Geiger is second to none...he'll even tell you so. He is (in my opinion) the most brilliant character on television. We can say that now, because he will back in his suit and his scrubs for 13 0f 22 episodes next season.

On May 19th, 1999, David Kelley, in all his brilliance wrote the season finale for Hope, in which he brings Mandy back as the tortured Dr. Jeffrey Geiger. This time, he will be wearing his suit as much as his scrubs. Geiger is back as the President of the Board of Chicago Hope Hospital, as well as the best cardio thorasic surgeon in the country.

In the finale, the top docs are summoned to a meeting, unaware of who called it. In walks the hated Geiger, (who has been absent from the staff for 2 yrs), and fires 5 of the 7 docs. It was vintage Geiger, smug, authoritive, and funny.

CBS execs told Kelley that he needs to revive the dying Hope, or it would be cancelled. He abandoned the show to give birth to his others: Ally McBeal, and The Practice. The show had suffered for a long time. It was still good, but nowhere near the excellence of the first 2 seasons. Geiger was the reason, so now he's bringing him back...thank God!
