Ways to avoid cuts, scratches, and skin irritations.
Use cuticle cream or lanolin type creams rather than scissors when having a manicure/pedicure and be cautious when cutting finger/toe nails.
Wear shoes and long pants when gardening and try to avoid thorns.
Avoid wasps, bees and insect bites
Call your physician if you get a wasp or be sting in your involved limb(s).
Use insect repellent and wear long pants, socks and shoes while gardening or hiking..
Ways to avoid excessive trauma or strain
Allow others to carry heavy objects.
Do not move heavy furniture.
Ask your doctor's advice before contemplating a strenuous or repetitive activity.
Do not carry shopping bags;handbags across your involved forearm.
Ways to avoid burns
Use a sun screen, "15 or above. Keep affected extremity covered with a towel or long pants to avoid sunburn.
Always test bath water temperature with your uninvolved arm.
Use caution when ironing and cooking.
Skin care
Use lanolin cream on your involved limb(s) several times daily.
Should you have a minor break in the skin, wash the afftected area well with soap and water.
Should you have a cut or burn, call your physician immediately (an antibiotic is usually necessary).
If you notice any signs of infection or swelling, call your doctor immediately.
