Here's stats about Awesome Dawesome
Dominque Dawes trained her whole life in Silver Springs Maryland under the tutelage of
Kelli Hill. She made the 1992 Olympic Team, she won a team bronze. Then Dominque
went home and trained and became better. In 1993 she went to the Worlds and was in the
lead after 3 rotations, but then performed poorly on the vault and wound up out of the
medals. The same thing happened in the 1994 Worlds. Then at the 1994 Nationals she
made history and swept the meet. That year she also lead the team to a silver medal in the
World Team Championships. 1995 was not the best year for the Dominique, injuries left
her out of the medals and forced her to withdraw from the World Team. Then 1996, she
performed poorly in the US Championships, but came back to win the Trials to make the
team. As the oldest member of the team she hit all her routines to qualify for the all
around. But it turned out to be the same old hit and miss story, Dominque finished 17th.
But she came back to claim Kerri Strugs spot in floor finals to win the bronze in that
event. There were alot of "what ifs" in her career, but it is true that "Awesome
Dawesome" had a great career. Now she is enjoying lots of post Olympic success. Touring
with her team, modeling, and even appearing in the Broadway hit "Grease".
