1. AIDS: AIDS is a disease that destroys the body's natural defenses against infection. The ravage of the AIDS epidemic has made this disease the highest priority of our public health system. In 1993 it was projected that by the year 2000 there would be an expected 30-40 million people infected around the world. We know that in reality these amounts were surpassed and people living with the HIV virus, the virus that causes AIDS, is far greater. In the hardest hit regions in Southern Africa 25% - 30% percent of the Adult population is believed to be HIV positive. In the U. S minorities & women are fast becoming leading victims of this pandemic. It is hitting no group more harder than Hispanics and African-Americans. In Love, Lust, Sex & Greed we meet a young latino who because of his misadventures contracts the disease. His mentality that he is "invincible" and "that can't happen to me" lead him to this tragic outcome. In the area where I live AIDS is becoming a silent killer. Many don't want to recognize the real furry of this disease. New Statistics have shown that Cities such as Newark, & Jersey City have high rates of people being infected with AIDS. And what has the United Nations said about this disease? The worst is yet to come.....Please my fellow Latinos & ALL my fellow young people, we are the age group that is most at risk. Every year thousands contract this disease. Don't be another statistic. Please use common sense. Always wear a condom and I will leave this topic on one last note. Don't be fooled by the reports that new medicine is affective to treat the virus. It may stop it for a while but the outcome is all the same, death. For more information click below.
2. Alcoholism & Drunk Driving: Drunk driving is known in some states at DUI (driving under the influence, DWI (driving while intoxicated) and OWI (operating while intoxicated). The laws and penalties for drunk drivers vary widely, but the consequencies for the victims are the same. Alcoholism is A primary, chronic disease with genetic, psychosocial and environmental factors influencing its development and manifestations. Alcoholism is characterized by a continuous or periodic impaired control over drinking; preoccupation with alcohol; and use of alcohol despite adverse consequences and distortions in thinking, most notably denial. Now people, we must use some common sense here, please do not drink and drive, it's simple as that. Life is not worth it for a good night of drinking. If you know a friend under the influence, help him or her out. Do not leave them at the mercy of the wheel, be smart! Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD)
