As Christ said Forgive Them Father, they know not what the do.

It's hard to believe that it was 5 years ago to the day that my brother and sister-in-law got married. The days are quite similar, a beautiful end of summer/ beginning of fall day, except that now there is another memory that sits on Sept. 11th. While 5 years is hard to believe, the 3 years since the Towers were attacked seems so close, but yet so far. An interesting comment was made to me last year by a priest I was working with. The day that we had Confirmation practice/ the last session for the teens was on Sept 11th, so I picked a prayer that went with the day and remembered the attacks and prayed for all those involved, in essese it was a Sept. 11th prayer service. The priest turned to me and said "will we always have to remember it." I was shocked to hear this, let alone from a "religious person." Now it can be taken in many ways, but I took it as, will we always have to remember what happened. Others can take it was will it always have to be remembered in a special way.

Maybe it struck me as odd becuase I went to SHU and was there for the Boland Hall Fire, and always make a point to go to Mass or at least say a prayer on Jan. 19th in honor of John , Frank and Aarron. That's not something you forget. I also make a point of going to Mass on Jan. 24 in honor of Gary. Again, that something I forget. The memories of the day may fade, but they certainly come rushing back when I think of them. So how can Sept. 11th beforgotten. Maybe the comment struck as odd becuase my town was affected, or becuase I was at a funeral for a member of the FDNY, and a memorial Mass for a person I knew when I was young. Maybe the personal connection is what keeps the memory and why we shouldn't forget what happened. To say don't remember Sept. 11th in a special way is like saying to not remember the Attack on Pearl Harbor in a special way.

Oh well, people grive in different ways, to each his own, but let us never forget what happened on 9-11-01. We lost too many to not remember them. This popped up before I was going to sign into fix my webpage, I decided to add it to my page.

Eternal rest, grant unto them oh Lord, and let Perpetual Light shine upon them, may their souls and all the souls of the faithfully departed, through the mercy of God, rest in Peace. Amen

Remember, O Most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession, was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto you, O Virgins of Virgins, my Mother. To you I come; before you I stand sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of Word Incarnate! Despite not my petitions, but in your mercy hear and answer me. Amen.

Saint Michael, the Archangel, defend us in battle, be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God, thrust into Hell Satan and the other evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruins of souls. Amen.

Soul of Christ, sanctify me; Body of Christ, save me; Blood of Christ, inebriate me; Water from the side of Christ, wash me; Passion of Christ, strengthen me; O good Jesus, hear me; Within your wounds hide me; Separated from you, let me never be; From the evil one protect me; At the hour of my death, call me; And close to you bid me; That with your saints, I may be, praising you forever and ever. Amen

The Psalm from September 11, 2001:

The Lord is compassionate to all his creatures.

I will extol you, O my God and King, and I will bless your name forever and ever.

The Lord is compassionate to all his creatures.

The Lord is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and of great kindness. The Lord is good to all and compassionate toward all his works.

The Lord is compassionate to all his creatures.

Let all your works give you thanks, O Lord, and let your faithful ones bless you. Let them discourse of the great glory of your kingdom and speak of your might.

The Lord is compassionate to all his creatures.

With the memories of my brother's wedding in my head, I awoke to my Mom saying two planes have crashed into the World Trade Center. My first thoughts were "that's odd", two of them, where were they going?? I proceeded with my day by washing my car and paying little attention to the news. Mind this was only half an hour. My neighbor then told me that one of the towers had collapsed. I finished cleaning my car and came in to watch the news.

The feelings are much the same as they were on January 19, 2000. How, why, what did we do to deserve this? Then I say to myself, like others, why does God let this happen?? Then I remembered Satan could do things too. A year and a half ago then Archbishop McCarrick told Seton Hall, we are a people of faith we will get through this. I utter the same words today as I pray for the United States, the victims of the attacks and their families. Our Lady of Guadalupe is the patroness of the Americans and the National Shrine in DC is dedicated to Our Blessed Mother. May Mary along with her Son watch over us in this time of need.

Yet another shot of what they looked like during.

What the NYC streets looked like.

Not only was NYC a target, but so was our Capitol... what the Pentagon looked like during.

TRIBUTE TO THE UNITED STATES

This, from a Canadian newspaper, no less, is worth sharing. So what if it's from the 70's.

America: The Good Neighbor.

Widespread but only partial news coverage was given recently to a remarkable editorial broadcast from Toronto by Gordon Sinclair, a Canadian television commentator. What follows is the full text of his trenchant remarks as printed in the Congressional Record:

"This Canadian thinks it is time to speak up for the Americans as the most generous and possibly the least appreciated people on all the earth. Germany, Japan and, to a lesser extent, Britain and Italy were lifted out of the debris of war by the Americans who poured in billions of dollars and forgave other billions in debts. None of these countries is today paying even the interest on its remaining debts to the United States.

When France was in danger of collapsing in 1956, it was the Americans who propped it up, and their reward was to be insulted and swindled on the streets of Paris. I was there. I saw it.

When earthquakes hit distant cities, it is the United States that hurries in to help. This spring, 59 American communities were flattened by tornadoes. Nobody helped.

The Marshall Plan and the Truman Policy pumped billions of dollars into discouraged countries. Now newspapers in those countries are writing about the decadent, warmongering Americans.

I'd like to see just one of those countries that is gloating over the erosion of the United States dollar build its own airplane. Does any other country in the world have a plane to equal the Boeing Jumbo Jet, the Lockheed Tri-Star, or the Douglas DC10? If so, why don't they fly them? Why do all the International lines except Russia fly American Planes?

Why does no other land on earth even consider putting a man or woman on the moon? You talk about Japanese technocracy, and you get radios. You talk about German technocracy, and you get automobiles. You talk about American technocracy, and you find men on the moon - not once, but several times and safely home again.

You talk about scandals, and the Americans put theirs right in the store window for everybody to look at. Even their draft-dodgers are not pursued and hounded. They are here on our streets, and most of them, unless they are breaking Canadian laws, are getting American dollars from ma and pa at home to spend here.

When the railways of France, Germany and India were breaking down through age, it was the Americans who rebuilt them. When the Pennsylvania Railroad and the New York Central went broke, nobody loaned them an old caboose. Both are still broke.

I can name you 5000 times when the Americans raced to the help of other people in trouble. Can you name me even one time when someone else raced to the Americans in trouble? I don't think there was outside help even during the San Francisco earthquake.

Our neighbors have faced it alone, and I'm one Canadian who is damned tired of hearing them get kicked around. They will come out of this thing with their flag high. And when they do, they are entitled to thumb their nose at the lands that are gloating over their present troubles. I hope Canada is not one of those."

Stand proud, America!

My own thoughts on the events of the past week: United we stand, United we fall, A piece of this great nation has fallen, but we are still standing, still united. We have shown them how strong America is you think they would have learned from all the wars not to mess with US. United we stand, United we fall, Buildings have fallen, many have been lost, but we stand together forever united by this tragedy.

People will ask, where was God on Tuesday, how could He let this happen, why would He let this happen?? The answer John 3:16: God so loved the world that He gave us His only son. God let His innocent son die on a cross. We already committed the worst act possible, we killed God, but He rose from the dead and gave us eternal life. God's heart broke as He watched His children die because of madmen. God was around on Tuesday. He was with the people on the planes, and in the towers. He opened the Gates of Heaven to His children. He was there with and in the heroic acts of the police, fire fighters, EMTs, and the rest of the rescue workers. God has called many of His children home, we may never understand why they had to go this way. Their assignments on earth were done. We will see them again someday. God has not forgotten us, He is still with us, watching over and protecting us. His love is unconditional. GOD BLESS THE USA!
