Sketch Life of Abdur Razzak



 BORN:

Shariatpur, Bangladesh in 1932.

 EDUCATION:

Graduated in Fine Arts, from the Government Institute of Art, Dhaka, 1954.
Master of Fine Arts, State University of Iowa, USA, 1957.


 MAJOR EXHIBITIONS:

SOLO: 5 shows in Bangladesh and USA.
GROUP: 30 shows in Bangladesh, USA, UK, Germany, Poland, Turkey, Iran, Pakistan, India, Norway, Sri Lanka and Brazil, including participation in the Contemporary Art of Bangladesh Shows in Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia and GDR, Triennale India and Asian art Biennale Bangladesh in 1981, 1983 and 1986.


 AWARDS:

  • "Ekushey Padak" (the highest civilian national award in the field of culture) in 1987.
  • Bangladesh Charu Shilpi Sangsad Honour in 1989.

     COLLECTION:

    Bangladesh National Art Gallery, Bangladesh National Museum and many private and institutional collections at home and abroad.

     MAJOR WORKS:

  • "Freedom Fighter" -a huge white concrete sculpture of a freedom fighter with a rifle in one hand and a grenade in the other, placed symbolically at Joydevpur cross-roads.
  • Pioneered the establishment of Department of Sculpture at the Institute of Fine Arts in 1963.
