The Rave Page

Ah yes...My own rave page, a place where I can list my personal favorites (and some not-so-faves)in no particular order or meaning. Of course, this page is for the most part highly subject to change. Some of the things I may grow tired with. Others you will see listed here for a long, long, time. So without further adieu:

Recommended Music, Reading, Eating, etc.

The Church

A Truly exceptional band. Eloquent, sophisticated, layered harmonies rife with texture and atmospherics. And hauntingly majestic, all of these things encompass The Church a band truly and fully worthy of my praises. I also had the privilege of meeting band members Marty Wilson-Piper and Peter Koppes after a concert they played at the Trocadeo in Philadelphia in April of 2002. Simply Superb.

The going rate

The Chruch-"After Everything, Now This"

I realize it's been a *LONG* time since I added anything new to this page. But yes, it took the latest release from The Church to at long last supplant the Hologram of Baal review I posted here in the autumn of 1998. And...it was well worth the wait. This is a band that continues to amaze and always leaves me awestruck. They never lose the magic as they interweave richly interwoven jangly guitar strewn melodies that transcend time & space. Must I say more? FIND this release and make it your own(or at the very least download it using Morpheus or Win MX or such). Every tune on this outing stands out and my faves from it are Numbers, After Everything, The Awful Ache, Chromium, Radiance, Seen It Coming...aww hell...just get it.

Seal-"Seal IV" After a notable 5 year hiatus(to me at least), Seal finally returns and with a vengence. I have always been quite partial to Seal and find myself once again, seduced by the hypnotic arrangements and dusky, emotive vocal delivery. Like a fine wine, "Seal IV" ages itself gracefully upon repeated listens revealing nuances and layers of sophistication previously undetected. My faves are "Get It Together", "Touch", "Love's Divine", "Where There's Gold", "The Loneliest Star", and "Heavenly(Good Feeling)". A most refreshing, eclectic, and overdue release from a most distinct artist.

The Verve-"Urban Hymns" 1/2 I finally got around to puchasing this recording after being enticed by several singles from it. No regrets, The Verve manage to blend neo-psychedelic overtones with intricate melodies formulating a most enjoyable sonic confection.

Richard Ashcroft-"Alone With Everybody" The former lead singer of the now defunct The Verve hedges his bets on this initial solo outing with much success. A sonic sonorous tapestry is interwoven throughout much of this recording, lending an aura of meloncholic enchantment. In additon, the music is punctuated with country and western textures of which beatifies the overall atmospehere. Try "A Song For The Lovers", "I Get My Beat", "Brave New World", "You On My Mind In My Sleep", "On A Beach", "C'mon People", and "Everybody" for a decent sampling of this piece.
