ECW Tidbits |
| Hey all you ECW fans.
I am back with great ECW opinions and news. I got a lot of responses to
whether or not I post TV results or house show results and the voting has been unanimous.
Starting this Monday, whether I have an article or not, I will be posting ECW's
weekend house show results so make sure you check back here on Monday to see what happened
over the weekend in ECW. The first thing I want to talk about is a guy who is way under-rated with a lot of ECW fans. I am sure everyone loves this guy but with guys like Rob Van Dam, Sabu, and Shane Douglas in the spotlight right now, he has been on the back burner. I am talking about Axl Rotten. I read that Axl is or soon will be in negotiations with Heyman to stay in ECW longer and hopefully some agreement will be signed. Axl Rotten is definitely a forefather of ECW. Dating back all the way to his tag team matches and feuds with Ian Rotten, Axl has been a cornerstone for ECW. There is no question that Paul Heyman and company should do anything to keep this guy. Call me crazy but besides his rants and besides his bizarre wrestling matches with even more bizarre stipulations, the guy has enough skill to do wrestling moves. I wouldn't call him Birishnikov (sp?) in a wrestling ring but I am never surprised when he pulls off a wrestling move here and there. The one logical way to get Axl in the spotlight is put more emphasis on the ECW Tag Team Titles. Sabu and Rob Van Dam, they are great together but they have their singles careers and it is getting pretty unfair to the guys who focus on the tag team division. Axl and Balls Mahoney should beat Sabu and Rob Van Dam for the tag team titles before Living Dangerously so that they can have a match maybe once and for all against the Dudleys. The last time there was a tag team match that meant anything in ECW was when Sabu and Rob Van Dam won the tag team titles in Japan a while back. I can't see Axl with the Television Title at all but surprisingly enough, with all the guys vying for the World Title now, I can definitely see Axl with the World Title. Sabu vs. Axl down the line would be great. Axl Rotten is a major key in ECW and my hat is off to him for being such a sport to his promotion and wrestling in particular. I wish him luck in his career and in his wrestling school. Next a little change of pace. Let's talk about Yoshiri Tajiri and Super Crazy. When you talk about series of matches, you talk about Dean Malenko against Eddy Guerrero, Chris Benoit against Booker T., Rey Misterio Jr. against Psichosis and now you can safely say that these two guys have a very popular series of matches going on. The only thing I have to say about it is.....STOP!!!!! I love seeing these guys wrestle, but after a while I am beginning to think that they aren't able to work a good match with anyone else which is totally wrong. Putting them against each other for an extended series and even dragging it into Living Dangerously will make them a joke in the eyes of the fans. The solution? ECW has tons of guys kicking off house shows who can handle Tajiri and Crazy. Steve Corino is one and Nova is another. These guys can really draw fan attention and can decide whether or not Tajiri's and Crazy's actual characters will be faces or heels. As far as Living Dangerously, don't put Nova in another dark match. That kid needs to be on camera in front of the world so he can blow up. Steve Corino does too, so throw two more faces into this feud and you can come out with one-on-one matches, tag team matches, three-way dances or even four corner matches. I know how I have said in the past that I don't watch ECW for the hardcore attitude, I watch it for the show they put on and not behind a microphone but in the ring. But with the WWF and WCW trying to claw their way up to hardcore heaven, ECW needs to do something to prove and show to the country that they were the first and the best to go hardcore in the states. I don't know if they dropped all the stipulation matches because no one would work them or it is just a time lost in ECW history, but they are looking by any means necessary then give the fans what they want. Some fans like myself love seeing Rob Van Dam and Sabu fly through the air or Lance Storm and Jerry Lynn have a technical battle but the majority want to see barbed wire, cages, and any weapon they can find. Bring it on back for the well being of your fans ECW, and show "The Big Two" that if they want to run with ECW then they will have to sacrifice their bodies more often. I am not saying the hardcore content in ECW isn't better than the WWF and WCW right now because it is, I am just saying with the hardcore division getting popular and Sandman showing up for a Nitro, anything can happen next. Of course that is just my opinion, I could be wrong. I want to know what you think so e-mail me at dlplow@att.net and tell me what you think about ECW or even the WWF and WCW. On a note, I heard Taka Michinoku and the other Kaientai guys who got released by the WWF are in Japan. I am no rocket scientist, but that may mean that we may not be seeing Taka Michinoku in ECW. I REALLY hope Scorpio comes back because there are so many ways to use him it is blowing my mind. Do you know a good way to use Scorpio in ECW? E-mail it to me and I'll tell you what I think. Until next time how about PEACE! |
