Wider Opportunity

We held two morning sessions today. The first was on our values. It showed that between all 25 of us, we all arranged our values differently as to which were of high, medium or low importance. And the way we arranged them on another sheet of paper showed another side of our personality. Whether it be that we are neat and orderly, or very disorganized.

Our second session allowed us to form groups and become the owners of a company where we would try to sell our ideas for CD labels to a musician or group.

In the afternoon, following a trek down to the Edith Macy Shop, we held a session on our "back home" plans. We were told what to consider when writing a back home plan.

Later that evening, after dinner, we received the coveted Macy Lamp, a pin given only to those who have trained at the Edith Macy Conference Center, at a Candle Lighting Ceremony held in the Great Hall. Four girls in our group put the ceremony together and did the actual pinning. We all also received a "candle lit by a candle that was lit by a candle, etc., that was lit by Juliette Gordon Low."

The ceremony also included us standing in a cricle, telling everyone else what our favorite part of the whole Wider Op was so far. Needless-to-say, it was a tear-filled occasion.

We went back to the Gathering Place and had an ice cream sundae party, after which we handed out our SWAPS. SWAPS are small, inexpensive items which are either made or bought. They can be council pins or patches, state tourism pins (most tourism places will donate them to you), or other items made to represent the person, state, Girl Scouts, community in which she lives, event being attended or just nothing at all.

After we were done and it was "lights out," it was time for some real fun......
