Footloose
Before seeing this show, I had heard 2 different things
about it. The critics hate it, the people love it. Well,
I guess I'm a combination of the two genre's, cause I did neither. I liked it.
It isn't good theatre- well directed, well written, even the new songs
seem out of place a bit. But it's fun. I enjoyed myself thouroughly. Most
of the music is familiar, and the dancing was great. Of course, I'm of the
generation that grew up with the movie. Maybe if you didn't, you won't like.
I did. But that's just my opinion.
Death of a Salesman
Recently I was lucky enough to see Brian Dennehy on Broadway, and even
luckier to see Elizabeth Franz. There isn't much I can say about this show. It's
fabulous. It's flawless. The cast is amazing, the set is beautiful, the concept is original.
You've never seen a Salesman like this before. Go see it. It's worth it.
But that's just my opinion.

Beauty and The Beast

I loved this show so much! First of all because of the music and second
of all the special effects. The Beast, Lumiere, and Mrs. Potts plus Gaston
were awesome, but Chip was really freaky and the kid was really really
annoying and also, Belle disappointed me. I left feeling that I could have
played her much better!!!!! It was an understudy but I wouldn't want to hurt her
feelings so I won't say her name.
Les Miserables
Submitted by Michael:Though it's a lousy show, it's somehow not difficult tounderstand why
people find this musical irresistable and continue to sing its praises
almost two decades after its initial run. The characters, storyand
setting are the hopelessly romantic brainchild of Victor Hugo;the drama
and tragedy of his classic masterwork are undeniable. This iswhy it's
so easy to forget that the musical "Les Miserables" essentiallyadds
nothing but 20th century glitz to an already gargantuan tale.Schoenberg
and Boubill's score and lyrics are sophomoric, dull, andself-important.
Each of the show's two-dozen musical numbers rests on afoundation of
pompous, simple descending chords. The lyrics reduce thesubtelty of
Hugo's prose to childish narratives and cliche-ridden anthems -with few
excpetions, this story is told in as blunt and unispired
fashion as possible. Where a powerful moment ofself-contradtiction and
guilt could have been captured by Valjean's courtroom scene, weareinstead
spoon-fed the apalling "Who Am I?", a pillar of melodrama tossedover a
drum set. The delicate love triangle Eponine agonizes over isshattered
by "On My Own," a pretty but
fatally melodramatic song taken straight from the "How To WriteA
Showtune" handbook. In the end, what really shines about "Les
Miserables" exsisted long before these two
clowns came along and decided to make millions out of it. The
complicated, brooding Javert? Credit goes to Hugo. The tragic, luminous
love story? Hugo cooked it up. The epic class-conflict? Hugo. The nasty
show-stealers Mr. and Mrs. Thenardier? The fragile Cossette? Thesad and
spunky Eponine? Hugo, Hugo, Hugo... Let's give this show achance to die
gracefully... let its bloated ego deflate on its own. Instead ofseeing
the 83rd National Company of Les Mis this fall, go see a bettershow -
something by Michael La Chiusa, or Steven Sondheim, forinstance. If
you're too married to the show to bear parting with Valjean andCompany,
read the damn book, for God's sake.
Submitted by Tara: Les Miserables has been my favorite show for some time,
and I just saw it again and it was even better than I remember it! Everything is fresh,
there are new jokes, even small scenes that were added. I thouroughly enjoyed it
and even though I knew how it ended I still cried at the end, as did all my friends
who were with me. It's still the best show on Broadway!
