The B-boying Dictionary

Hey...what's up!!! This page is simply based on giving new breakers an idea of what certain breaking moves look like. If you want to learn easy moves...go to my beginner section, and if you think that you are ready for some advanced breaking... check out my Breaking page. Anyway...if you want to get an idea of what certain moves look like...stick to this page.

Uprock

AKA Downrock:

A simple movement of rocking back and forth with your body to prepare yourself for a move... or to gain momentinum for certain moves. There is no such thing as a standard uprock...every breaker has an uprock of their own.

Footwork

AKA Floorwork:

A move that looks like a breaker is running around in circle while being supported by their two hands. Many moves are usually added into the footwork, and it's usually used to show off a b-boy's style. Some breakers use it as a warmup.

Apple Jacks

AKA Tic-Tacs:

A move where a breaker gets into a crab soccer position, and supports himself on his/her two hands. Then, they kick up one of their leg until their knee joint is close to their face. Then, they place their leg back to where it was and then pull their body foward and clap lightly with their hands. Then they land back on their hands again, and repeat the move from there.

The Donkey

AKA Broncos and Lofting:

This move make a breaker look like that he's diving back and forth onto his hands in the same spot really quickly. It's really simple.

Turtles

AKA the Float or Crab:

This move is where a breaker jabs his/her two elbows into their stomach, and walk around on nothing but their two hans. This move is kink of hard to master.

The handglide:

A move where a breaker jabs one elbow into his/her stomach, and spins around in a circle on that on hand. A piece of cloth or a glove is usually used to help with the spinning motion. The free hand is used to push off for speed.

Headglide:

Like a handglide, but your head is touching the ground. Probably one of the easiest moves in breakdancing.

Sideglide:

Like a handglide but your elbow is jabbed into your sides.

Donut:

Like a headglid, but your elbow is jabbed up really high so your body is almost vertical.

Crickets:

Like the turtle, except you hop and jump around.

Jackhammer:

Like a handglid, except your free hand is placed behind your back, and your hopping on that one hand supporting your weight.

Mini-flares

AKA Swipes:

A move where a breaker supports himself with two hands while he turns his hips so his legs moves 360 degrees.

Gyros:

A move similar to the mini-flare, but your hips turn more, and one rotaion cover 1/2 a circle instead of only 1/4-1/3 of the circle.

Cyclone:

A move similar to the gyro except you start off standing, and your legs are a lot higher. It's very hard to connect them.

Sucide flip:

A move where a breaker flips without hands and land on back. However, the trick is to get all of your impact of the flip into your feet so you won't hurt your back.

1990's

This move is basically a handspin on one hand that is kept on going by the rotations of the hip. The more rotations a breaker can do, the better it looks.

2000

A move exactly like the 1990's except the free hand is placed on top of the spinning hand while spinning.

Elbowglide

A move where a breaker places his fist against the side of his face and lifts his whole body up and supports his whole body with one elbow. Then, they spin by pushing off with the free hand and the drive of the hips keeps the breaker going.

Headspin

A self explainitory move. A breaker goes into a headstand, and whips his legs around to give him/her the momentinum to spin. Some breakers can spin really long without hands, and some breakers do taps, which is a heaspin where the breaker does one rotaion, stops, and then does another one.

Windmill

A move where a breaker goes from their upperback to their front and then roll to their upperback again. It's like a continuous back spin except you also turn to face the ground. The legs are kept stiff and spread and the arms are used to push off to gain speed. There are more than 10 kinds of windmill.

Flares

Basically a gymnastic move where the breaker is on nothing but two hands and his/her legs are spread and are going around in a cirlce. The left hand is lifted to let legs through, and then the right, and the pattern goes on.

Air tracks

This move is absolutely crazy. Is basically a windmill in the air. A breaker would gain enough momentinum from a move such as a flare, and then, they would flip themselves into the air and do rotaions of the windmill in the air. Another kind of air tracks is basically a cyclone without hands, which is easier than the windmill in the air.

If I forgot certain moves, please e-mail me...thanx.
