October 28 - This Day in History

The Statue of Liberty Dedicated in 1886

The Statue of Liberty, created by sculptor Frederic Bartholdi, was a gift of friendship to the U.S. from France and a symbol of freedom and opportunity to millions of immigrants who passed through neighboring Ellis Island. The statue was built in France, then disassembled and pieced together again in New York, where it was formally dedicated on October 28, 1886.
