You need to get the Secret Key out of the burned out building before you can enter the gym.

You can turn your fossil and the amber into POKeMON in the lab in the town (Helix=Omanyte, Dome=Kabuto, Amber=Aerodactyl).

After defeating Blaine, Fly to Viridian City, or Surf north to Route 21, which will eventually take you to Viridian.
