SMELTER: Each house
contains the mesh and pictures for an unused building known only as a
Smelter. I curiously made this building available in muiltiplayer (by
editing the rules.txt) only to find that it served absolutely NO purpose.
Upon examining the picture of the ORDOS smelter, I noticed that it's picture
seemed to contain their bonus unit. Perhaps this was originally required
to build the 3 bonus air units.... |

UPGRADED WINDTRAP: Previously
cracked by the makers of Minimod, This is the original art for
the Harkonnen Upgraded Windtrap. This building (which was removed for
unknown reasons) produces five times as much energy as the normal windtrap.
Perhaps Westwood thought it was too powerful and left it out. |

TLEILAXU DOOM: Known
only as Tleilaxu Doom, this building or unit has very little data referring
to it. I believe that this was originally a buildable version of the tleilaxu
turrets (seen in later levels). Though these are not buildable in the
game (without a mod), this picture remains showing that at one point in
development, more units might have been available to the subhouses. |

WORM: Though there isn't
too much data pointing to this, I believe that the worm riders were originally
a separate unit from the Fedaykin. A color and gray version of this icon
exists making me wonder if perhaps worms were at some point buildable
in the game. |

SCAVENGER: Unit only
known as the scavenger. This was originally available to all 3 houses
but was removed for unknown reasons. When I attempted to access this unit
through multiplayer, the game crashed. Only this gray picture remains
of this unit (though I believe the meshes are still there. |

HARVESTER LIGHT TURRET:
Commented out of the game text is the Harvester Light Turret. At some
point in development Westwood had decided to arm some of their harvesters
with an unknown cannon. Little code remains to determine how powerful
this cannon was. |

SILOS: For those familiar
with older Westwood games (dune 2000), the silo was at one point used
in this game. Presumably used to store excess spice, the developers left
out this nuisance. |

HARKONNEN REPAIR PAD: Commented
out of some of the code lies the Harkonnen repair pad. Presumably used
to repair harkonnen vehicles, this building was left out of the final
release. No pictures or meshes of this building remain. Perhaps the ability
to repair harkonnen vehicles would have been too great of an advantage
to their house... |

IN GAME NON BUILDABLE UNITS:
There are many more in game non buildable units that are inaccessible
to multiplayer. Many of the useful ones have been unlocked in mods (Including:
Imperial Tank, Smuggler Quad, Ix/Guild Cannon, Tleilaxu Cannon). These
units are in the campaign and were probably never intended for multiplayer
games. Additional units (Tlielaxu Flyer (a carryall)) are in the
code but not in single player (I don't think). These are extremely buggy
when I attempt to unlock them so I left them out. Maybe westwood will
expand these races in a later expansion (please??) |
