F-117 Related Photos

An FSD in flight painted in standard gray. Number unknown although it might be "Ship One". This is a standard cockpit configuration of a Gulf War era F-117

The above photo is the airfield at Tonopah Test Range or "the Test Site" as the locals called it. It was originally published by Lockheed in their "Horizons" publication. The USAF wasn't real pleased about it. And the negative was actually flipped left to right for some inexplicable reason before printing. This picture was scanned by Tom Mahood. He has reversed the view and it is displayed correctly here. The Man Camp was located 7 miles to the north and is not seen in the photo. The test range itself extends to the east of the airfield area where air drop tests of inert ballistic warheads were made for other nonrelated programs.

Above are all of the aircraft of the 9th FS photographed in what is referred to as "the Canyon" at Holloman AFB early in 1996.

The down and dirty side of an F-117

These drawings are taken from the patent LADC filed with the U.S.Patent Office in the early days of the program. This is actually the HAVE BLUE design but their patent called for a diamond shaped vehicle using a facetted design.
A photo of Greg Feest, veteran of more than 130 combat hours in an F-117. Feest started Operation JUST CAUSE in Panama with a 2,000lb bomb and later dropped the first bomb on Bagdad, Iraq to begin the first Gulf War. Feest had an uncanny ability to put his bombs precisely on target. When he was the Squadron Commander of the 9th FS at Holloman he would regularly out score every other pilot in the 49th FW's quarterly intra-wing bombing contests. His efforts gave the 9th FS an unprecedented string of victories over the other two squadrons in the event.

A mystery photo. The location of where this photo was taken is unknown. Apparently this TDY involved 4 or 5 aircraft. Would anyone care to guess?
