The Sailor Senshi in:
Heatwave
It was a quiet and calm day in the town of
Newport
<S.D. Mina: Yeah, the only reason it’s
so quiet is because the temperature is in the high 80’s with mega high
humidity. People would have to be insane to cause trouble on a day like
this!>
The Sailor Senshi, along with Matt Emmerton,
Matt Heath, Steve Huff, and Lydia Deetz, were relaxing in air conditioned
comfort at Steve’s apartment. Each person was sprawled over a chair or
on the floor, trying to follow the example of a cat and be as motionless
as possible.
“What’s the temperature?” Serena asked as
she fanned herself with a small stack of papers. “I’m roasting!”
“It’s 89 and still rising,” Mina sighed, taking
a seat on a nearby chair. She immediately regretted the action since the
vinyl instantly clung to her sweat covered legs.
“... And the temperature is expected to rise
into the triple digits today, tomorrow, and for the rest of the week,”
the radio weatherman was saying as Matt Heath clicked it off.
“I would rather put up with the wind princess
again than sit here and melt,” Matt H said, taking a long sip of soda.
He immediately turned green, rushed to the sink, and spat. “Blech! This
soda’s warm!”
“That’s impossible,” Mina said as she took
a sip of it. She choked it down, immediately regretting it. “You’re right,
it is warm. Yuck.”
“I don’t see why you’re complaining,” Lita
said, mopping her brow with a damp wash cloth, “at least it’s fizzy.”
“Correction; it *was* fizzy, miss drink expert,”
Mina said, pouring the can’s contents into a glass, the liquid not even
bubbling in the slightest, “it’s as flat as the tire on a car in the junk
yard.”
“Nice use of imagery,” Ami said from her calculus
textbook. She reached for her own drink, only to find an empty glass in
its place. “Hey, who took my drink?”
“Sorry Ami,” Mina said, “I needed to wash
my mouth out after that horrible soda.”
“So you took my drink?!”
“Calm down you two,” Rei said from the seat
she was sprawled out in, “the heat is making us all just a tad irritable
so we need to get a grip.”
A loud clunking and clanking filled the apartment
moments before the air conditioning died. The senshi turned and glared
at Rei, who shrugged. “Well, you can’t blame this on me. I have nothing
to do with it.”
“I think it’s a city and town wide power outage,”
Steve said, poking his head into the room. His black hair hung limply,
some sticking to his forehead due to the sweat, some just lifeless, and
some stuck in clumps.
“Whose brilliant idea was this?” Serena asked
as she fanned herself some more, now at a faster pace. “We could be at
the beach...”
“They’re packed and there’s a line of cars
two miles long,” Mina sighed.
“The lake...”
“Packed on all sides, including the dock,
also with a long line of cars,” Ami answered.
“Who has a pool?”
“Tod does, but his parents told him no visitors
after a wild party a while back,” Steve said as he rubbed an ice cube over
his bare shoulders. The cube quickly melted and evaporated.
Matt H, Lita, and Lydia began to sniff the
air before rushing to the windows. “Get some air moving, will ya?!” the
trio said as they opened the windows, “Please get some fans going. It reeks!”
“What are you three talking about?” Mina asked,
“It’s too hot for....”
She began to sniff the air herself, and after
a moment she rushed to the windows as well. “Gaaaack, whose feet
ARE those? They’re rank smelling!!”
“Umm... those would be my feet,” Matt E said,
blushing an embarrassed shade of crimson. “Sorry..... guess the heat’s
getting to them.”
“Oh boy,” Rei sighed, “what I wouldn’t give
for an emergency call right now.”
“You and me both,” Serena sighed, “it’s too
hot to do anything else.”
“You may just get your chance for that,” Steve
said as he looked at his pager. “Message from Tod, Rich, and Tony. We have
Sailor business.”
“Yaay,” the others said weakly as they stood
up, some shouting in pain as skin was peeled away from bare legs.
“We should transform now,” Ami said as she
produced her Mercury pen, “that way we won’t feel the full effect of this
heat wave.”
“Ami, that’s the smartest thing I’ve heard
today,” Serena said as she held her locket aloft, “Eternal Moon Power...”
<music: Crystal Power Make UP!>
“Mercury Crystal Power...”
“Mars Crystal Power...”
“Jupiter Crystal Power...”
“Venus Crystal Power...”
“Make UP!”
<music: Star Power Make UP!>
“Thunder Crystal Power!”
“Pegasus Crystal Power!”
“Flame Crystal Power!”
“Phoenix Crystal Power!”
“TRANSFORM!!”
Nine flashes of light filled the apartment,
bringing forth the Sailor Soldiers, two Star Warriors, and two Mystic warriors.
They made a hasty exit, startling a few people in the stairway who wondered
why all nine were wearing such hot looking outfits. They got similar looks
on the street as they followed Warrior Thunderbolt, who apparently knew
their destination, but had yet to fill the others in.
“Hey ‘bolt, not to seem the downer or anything,”
Venus said, “but where the hell are we going?”
“Center of town,” Thunderbolt replied, “the
hottest point in the area.”
“Oh joyous,” Mars sighed, “why can’t the monster
pick someplace other than the center of town to attack?”
“That’s just monster mind working,” Ami said,
“they like to make as much of a mess as possible, and the heart of the
city or town is usually the best place to do this.”
“Thanks,” Moon and Mars sighed, “that explains
a lot.”
The group pulled to a stop in the center of
town, breathing heavily from running in the insanely high temperatures.
Some took a moment to wipe the sweat from their brows. Others took a second
to tie hair back from their face.
“Is it just me, or did it suddenly get hotter?”
Venus asked, brushing her sweat soaked bangs out of her face.
“According to all current data the temperature
is well in the hundreds of degrees and still rising,” Mercury said, her
computer visor glowing with readings, “this is most peculiar.”
“What’s so odd about it?” Pegasus asked as
she pulled her hair back and tied it in place, “we’re dealing with a combination
fire and sun elemental.”
“How do you figure that?” Jupiter asked, wiping
her brow with her glove.
“Well, take a look over there,” Pegasus replied,
pointing towards a young woman who was standing in the middle of the street.
The woman had an extremely dark tan, fiery red hair with golden streaks,
and was clad in a yellow bikini with red fire emblems, a yellow sarong
with the same emblems, and yellow high heel shoes with fire red trim. The
others took a look at her and fell over.
“Wow, more have come to join my beach party,”
she said, forming a globe of flames in between her palms. “Catch the ball!”
She hurled it at the group, the globe splitting
into multiple fireballs that struck amidst the warriors and senshi, scattering
them as the fireballs exploded.
Sailor Mercury flipped forward, rolling twice
before coming up in a crouch. A bubble formed between her palms, and she
hurled this at the woman. “Shabon Spray Freezing!”
The single bubble split into multiple smaller
bubbles that burst and dropped the temperature in the area to freezing
while creating a thick fog bank around them. A moment later, tough, the
woman released an intense wave of heat that melted the fog and sent the
temperature soaring once again.
“Bloody unbelievable,” Phoenix said as he
launched some fletchetts in the woman’s direction, which she easily dodged,
“Mercury, do you have any tactical data on her?”
“No, but I do,” Warrior Arctic Chill said
as he and Warriors Neptune and FireStar joined the others, “about time
you guys arrived.”
“We’ll discuss this later,” Hellfire said
as he leapt in front of them, catching a wave of flames with his spinning
axe. He then hurled the now glowing weapon at the woman. “Blazing Blade
Boomerang!”
The large spinning blade cut through the air,
directed at their adversary. The woman blinked out, reappearing a short
distance away. She seemed surprised when the weapon followed her teleports,
but she gave the owner a malicious little grin before teleporting behind
the group. The axe followed her movements, aiming for the four warriors
who stood between her and the blade.
“Oh crud!” Neptune said as he dove out of
the way, “Hellfire, you need to learn to control your weapon better!”
“You guys are a bunch of fraidy cats,” Hellfire
sighed as he caught his spinning weapon and smashed the blade into the
ground, “Flaming Fissure!”
Columns of magma erupted in a straight line
directed at the woman, who stood directly in one of the columns, absorbing
the heat and growing stronger by the second.
“Hellfire, break off your attack,” Mercury
shouted when she saw the monster’s power level, “you’re only making it
stronger!”
“I wish I could,” Hellfire replied, “but she’s
drawing the strength out of me through the attack.”
“Now this is power,” the woman said as she
stepped from the magma geyser, which dissipated the moment she left it.
She looked at the senshi and warriors before saying, “You guys are toast.
Nova Flare!!”
The area suddenly grew red hot, wooden items
bursting into flames, glass melting, and the pavement beginning to liquefy.
Weapons and armor became hot to the touch and painful to hold or wear.
“Neptune, do something!” Thunderbolt shouted
as he ditched his swords, which stuck in the pavement before they began
to melt.
“Neptune Tidal Wave Submerge!”
A tidal wave containing a ringed energy ball
washed through the area, cooling things down before attacking the woman,
who took the full brunt of the attack and yet remained standing.
“Hey, watch the hair!” the woman shouted as
she brushed her dripping wet locks from her face, “I just got it permed!!”
“What *is* she?!” Sailor Moon asked as she
dodged several fireballs.
“An angel youma cross breed,” Warrior Arctic
Chill replied. “Her name’s Sun Goddess, and her tech skills all have to
do with fire and intense heat.”
“Just lovely,” FireStar sighed, sweat dripping
down his face, “I... I don’t think I can go on. It’s too hot...”
He didn’t get to finish his sentence, though,
for he collapsed to the ground due to heat exhaustion. Hellfire and Thunderbolt
were at his side within seconds, supporting his weight on their shoulders.
Arctic Chill glanced over to see how his team mates were doing before he
decided a plan of action.
“It’s time to cool things off,” he said as
he produced his ice bow. Notching a silver arrow he took aim at the heavens
above. He drew the bowstring back, the arrow glowing ice blue as he chanted
a type of prayer under his breath. Sweat poured down his face, yet a mystical
wind blew up around him, drying away his sweat and giving him added strength.
“..... Winds of the north, come to our aid. BLIZZARD!!”
<Sakura: “Snow card, I command you to freeze
the area. Release and dispel. SNOW CARD!!”
*assorted flashes of light as Card Captor
Sakura takes wand to card to summon an elemental attack*
<WS: “Sakura-chan, I hate to tell you this,
but you’re in the wrong anime.”>
<Sakura: “Ooops. Sorry about that.”>
<WS: “No problemo.”>
He released the glowing arrow, which sailed
straight into the air until it was only a glistening point. A blinding
flash of light filled the sky mere seconds before black storm clouds rolled
in. A cold wind howled through the air, and following the wind came driving
snow and sleet.
Sun Goddess blinked in disbelief as snow covered
her body, and she shivered convulsively, covering her bare midriff with
her arms. The warriors and sailor senshi felt great relief from the new
form of air conditioning, their energy returning to them as the temperature
around them dropped from the triple digits down into the 50’s and 60’s.
“It’s about time somebody did something about
the weather,” Pegasus said as she produced her spear. She pointed the head
at Sun Goddess, the horn glowing golden as rainbows wrapped around it.
“Horn Missile!”
Several large golden spikes fired from the
horn that acted as her spear head, each one striking Sun Goddess. The final
dart pierced her left shoulder, severely weakening her. She clutched at
her shoulder, cursing under her breath as she struggled to stay conscious.
“I... I’m done for,” Sun Goddess said as her
life ebbed away, “but I can still take out a few sailor brats when I go.”
A column of energy engulfed her, and she levitated
about a foot from the ground as her muscles began to tense. She clenched
her fists, digging her nails into her palms as she poured her remaining
energy into her near fatal attack. The temperature in the area went from
freezing cold to desert level in a matter of seconds, vaporizing the snow
almost instantly.
“Say hasta la vista,” she said, smiling wickedly
as she tensed every muscle in her body to the straining point, “Ultra Nova!!”
“Tidal Blast!”
“Sword Tech - Blizzard!”
Two streaks of blue passed by Sun Goddess
seconds before she was struck by a blade of sub sonic water. A second after
that large spires of ice engulfed her and snow fell on her once again.
To her left stood Warrior Neptune with his trident still glowing, his eyes
closed in concentration. To her right crouched Warrior Arctic Chill, his
dagger glowing ice blue as he prepared to sheathe it.
“Sailor Moon, hurry up and finish this!” Neptune
shouted before he and Arctic Chill leapt out of the way.
“Right,” Sailor Moon said as she produced
her moon mace. “Starlight Honeymoon Therapy Kiss!”
Colored light swirled around Sun Goddess,
taking the evil spirit and locking it away in subspace while returning
the girl to normal. A moment later the girl collapsed from exhaustion and
the temperature dropped from the 90’s and higher down to the 60’s, dark
clouds filling the sky once again.
“Well, at least we’re going to be more comfortable,”
Warrior Phoenix said as he lifted the girl from the pavement to get her
to shelter. “And it looks like Shera is going to be more comfortable as
well.” The others nodded in agreement. A moment later a loud rumble filled
the air, which was soon joined by bolts of lightning and torrential rainfall,
which soaked people to the skin in a matter of seconds.
“And the forecast for the next four days is
rain, rain, and more rain. People, you might want to consider building
an ark if this keeps up.”
Lita sighed and clicked the radio off before
glancing out the window at the wet and gray day. Once again they were in
Steve’s apartment, except now instead of roasting to death they were bored
senseless. Shera was hanging out with them as well, and she was enjoying
a little bit of down time after her busy days as Sun Goddess.
“This is unbelievable,” Mina sighed as she
stared at the ceiling, “now we get days of rain instead of days of incredible
heat.”
“I doubt nature will find a happy medium before
the week is through,” Ami said without looking up from her chemistry text.
“Sure it will. We have Rei with us after all.”
“She said a happy medium Mina,” Serena said
without glancing up from her Sailor V manga, “not a grumpy one.”
Mina glanced over at Rei, who was playing
a street fighting tournament game with Steve, Tony, and Shera, and kept
losing to the three, who would continually gang up on her. “You’re absolutely
right. Whatever was I thinking?”
“Were you thinking at all?” Rei grumbled as
her character took a 24 hit combo and expired. “Damn! You guys beat me
again!!”
“And yet you’re still fighting,” Tony said,
“why don’t you just give up?”
“Never! I will not lose to the likes of you!!”
Shera giggled before setting her controller
down. “You guys have fun playing without me. I’m going to go and make something
to drink and maybe a snack.”
The other sailor senshi sighed, sweat drops
forming on their heads as Rei pressed the start button for another round
of punishment. Shera sighed as well, since she was getting out of range
of Rei’s temper.
“Please make the rain end!!” the four senshi
said in unison in a plea to the weather gods and goddesses.
“Damn... lost again!!!” Rei shouted, enforcing
their plea.
The End.
