44 / Avoiding Evil

If one allows evil to become a part of her life, so that she is accustomed to its presence, she will fall under its power eventually. Evil cannot survive the cosmic unity of the sage, who makes plain her intentions to continue on the path and to eschew that which is less than beneficial to that end.

Which is the more real, the love manifested in the Son, the Savior, for His brethren, or the essence of love that may be seen even in the vilest of passion? They are one. But that they bring into being in a materialized form is what elements of the one source have been combined to produce a materialization. Beautiful, isn’t it?

How far, then, is ungodliness from godliness? Just under, that’s all! 254-68

(Q) How can I rise above my last period of depression and feel that I am going forward again?

(A) Set thine thoughts and thine mind on things that pertain to His love, His will, and those things that would hinder become as the shadows in the background, and look not upon that in the rear . . .

(Q) Were evil forces warring within me, or was it my reasoning mind that caused this depression?

(A) As has been given from the beginning, "There is set before thee good and evil. Choose thou." In the choosing, in the setting of thine will in that direction or the other direction allows those influences to become magnified or lessened by that in the promises. 288-30

What, then, ye may ask, is the will of the Father here, now, under the varying circumstances that ye confront in the present? with thy problems that are thine heritage through the use thou hast made, and are making in thy dealings with thy fellow man day by day.

To do good, to eschew evil, to love mercy and judgment, saith the prophet, is the whole duty of man—as related to his activities in the earth. 2524-3

Love mercy and justice, eschew evil; and keep thy heart singing all the while. For the joy of the service in the love of the Lord maketh the heart glad. Look not upon those things that make for disturbing influences, as of an evil force. For God so loved the world as to give His Son, that we through Him might know eternal life! 262-116

As ye then forgive those who trespass, who speak evil, who are ungentle, who are unkind, so may the Father forgive thee when thou art wayward, when thou art headstrong and seek His face . . .

Then, if thou wouldst know what may be the understanding heart, just be kind, just be patient, just be lovely, just be friendly to thy fellow man. Forgive those that speak lightly or unkindly, or who even in premeditated manner do thee evil. For if ye forgive not these, how can thy heavenly Father forgive thee? 792-1
