THE GREAT SPIRIT

HEARTBEAT
Deep down in the earth,
we hear the Drum beat,
the heartbeat of nature,
deep down in the earth.
The Mother she calls us
from deep down in the earth.
Come together my children,
come together to dance,
to the rhythm of my heartbeat,
From deep down in the earth.
From deep down in the earth,
She calls us to dance.
From deep down in the earth.
Dance Ute's and Comanches,
Apaches' and Sioux,
Blackfeet and Cherokee,
Cheyenne and Chickahominy,
Creek and Crow,
Fox and Huron,
Iroquois and Navajo,
Oneida and Seneca,
Onondaga and Seminole,
Mohawk and Mohegan,
dance to the Great Drum,
that beats within you!

Old Woman
At times it's hard to walk.
The rocks on the road seem larger than in my youth.
My legs won't stretch like they used to.
Although, my heart still leaps
when I see you.
Long ago, when I was young,
I ran, I laughed, and loved.
Never thinking about tomorrow.
Always, my heart would leap,
when I would see you.
Today, as time has passed us by,
I only think of yesterday.
When my body was young,
and I laughed at tomorrow.
Still, my heart leaps
when I see you.
