Harald and Sonja - Princess Märtha Louise's Wedding

Princess Märtha Louise and Mr. Ari Behn on three different moments of their wedding day, the 24th May 2002. Princess Märtha’s wedding dress was designed by Wenche Lyche and inspired by the shape and colour of the Märtha lily combined with the gothic arches of Nidaros Cathedral. The letters M and A were woven into the design and reflect the shape of the arches and lilies. The train of the dress was three metres long and ended in a pointed gothic arch. A circle of five lilies (the sacred number for a wedding), two for the woman and three for the man, was embroidered at the end of the train. The silk chiffon veil was attached to a diamond and pearl tiara that originally belonged to Queen Maud.

On the left, HM The King of Norway, Princess Märtha Louise, Mr. Ari Behn and HM Queen Sonja await inside Stiftsgården to receive compliments from the wedding guests, before the start of the wedding banquet. In the middle, HM The King delivers a moving speech during the banquet, with his daughter on his left. On the right, TM The King and Queen of Norway leave Trondheim Cathedral at the end of the wedding ceremony conducted by the Bishop of Trondheim. The Queen wore a silk chiffon dress in shades of blue with the Grand Cross of the Royal Norwegian Order of St. Olav and a miniature portrait of His Majesty King Harald V. Her jewellery consisted of the beautiful Desirée tiara and a double-stranded diamond necklace. The King wore white tie and tails with the Grand Cross with star of the Royal Norwegian Order of St. Olav and the star of the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit. Around the neck he wore the Commander’s Cross of the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit.

On the left, HM The Queen of Denmark, the only foreign sovereign to attend the ceremony at Trondheim, wearing the same tiara she had worn at the 1968 and 2001 Royal Weddings. She is seen leaving the Cathedral accompanied by HRH The Crown Princess of Sweden (extremely elegant in a violet dress and wearing the Queen Josephine’s Amethyst Parure) and HRH The Prince of the Asturias (in white tie and tails and wearing the sash with the Grand Cross of the Royal Norwegian Order of St. Olav and the Golden Fleece around his neck). In the middle, the beautiful Crown Princess of Norway wears the tiara she was given for her wedding and waves to the crowds as she arrives at the Cathedral of Trondheim with HRH The Crown Prince. On the left, the awesomely elegant new Princess of Orange wears the same tiara she wore on her wedding day as she leaves the Cathedral of Trondheim accompanied by HRH The Prince of Orange.
