He was standing by the war memorial
He wore his dress uniform and shiny boots,
He stood to attention
With respect he gave a salute.
To all of his comrades
Who fought to keep our country free,
Then he laid a wreath
In honor of their memory.
Many of his comrades stood with him
But not as many as there were before,
Old age have claimed many of his buddies
They will be remembered for evermore.
When the memorial service was over
He eagerally shook their hands,
Hoping to see them all next year
So togather they can all stand.
He knows the time will come
When all the veterans will cease to be,
All they want from us is to remember
And lay a wreath in honor of their memory.
