FRONTENAC FLYERS JUNIOR HOCKEY The season has started I wish I could report how the first league game went, but have to write article ahead of time. What I can mention is with two recent signings the Flyers become a whole lot stronger. Jamie, the manager of the Flyers announced they signed Mike Thompson as the other overage and Rob Laurin has returned and wants to play goal again this year. Mike and Cory, along with Matt Feeley have shown in the exhibition games they are going to be a strong line. Cory with speed to burn and great hands around the net, Mike's attitude, why go around a player when you can go through them and Matt setting them up and averaging a goal a game sure makes it exciting line to watch. Rob was the Flyers number one goalie last year and Flyers would have been in a lot of trouble if Rob had not stood on his head and kept them in games. The Flyers also announced the signing of B. J. Kirouac as the other goalie. B. J. comes from Red Lake, Ontario which I understand is near the Manitoba border. The Flyers next home game is this Sunday against the Picton Pirates. The Pirates showed in the exhibition game they are going to be tough to beat again this year. Even with a depleted lineup they gave the Flyers a tough game. Again, Flyers took a lot of stupid penalties and gave the Pirates a chance to get back in the game. Ryan since has stated in a local paper that he is at the helm of a hard-nosed, hard hitting hockey team. He wants player's taking pride in their game and play with discipline which will win hockey games. He stated; if a player doesn't play with discipline he won't be playing at all. With the talent on this team and the work ethic the players have shown so far who know this could be the year. Another reminder- keep October 21st open as the Flyers alumni will be playing Ottawa Senators alumni, followed by this years team playing the Amherstview Jets. The Flyers hockey school was a great success and the players and coaching staff all reported they had a great time. Again, the Flyers web-site is very busy with many people checking in every week. The web-site has schedule, guestbook and shortly will have players profile. The web-site is www.angelfire.com/nf/nfhockey check it out and keep up to date on the Flyers. Reminder again Picton Pirates at North Frontenac Arena October 7th Sunday 3.15pm. The following Sunday the Campbellford Rebels will be in for the first time. See you at the Arena!!!!
