Flyers Home Opener

On Sunday Sept. 30th the Frontenac Flyers hosted the Napanee Raiders for their opening season home game. It was an emotional opening as the Flyers paid their respect to a former player and friend Alex (Bubba) Turcotte, who passed away in April.

The game was a fast paced affair, as Napanee showed why they were league champs last year. Napanee scored three goals in the first period and took advantage to some early season nerves on the Flyers part. Napanee had an advantage in shots by an 8 to 5 margin. The goal scorers were Ryan Sharpe, Noel McNeil and Pat Wiley.

The second period was all Flyers as they took the game to Napanee and peppered the Napanee goal with 11 shots and used the body to slow down their adversary. This paid off as the Flyers evened the score at three with goals from Mike Langille, Cory Thompson (shorthanded) and Sean Romanek.

The third period was evenly played with no real advantage to either team, shots on goal were Flyers 7 Napanee 6. On to overtime.

In the overtime period both teams had chances to score but a penalty to Napanee with 1:55 left in the overtime period was costly. The Flyers scored on a tip in by Derek Mack from a Alec Bowes point shot gave the Flyers the win. Overall it was an exciting game and there are sure to be more.
