Buying, Selling, & Refinishing Antique and Older Wood Furniture
Doyle's opened it's doors on Dogberry Hill Rd. St. Phillips NF. Canada in October 1998. Owner operater Chris Doyle spent the prievious ten years as a wood working hobbiest.
Over the years he's worked with a couple of local antique dealers, but his real experience comes from a life time if interest, trial and errors and studying the forgotten craftsman, whom produced the furniture that he now refinishes.
A true craftsman, able to bring new life to any tattered piece of wood, Chris Says " if it's made of wood I can fix it". He will also sell his inventory " as is" to anyone wishing to try their own hand.
The Showroom
Just 10k from the Avalon Mall out Thorbourn Rd., turn left onto Dogberry Hill Rd.. There is a sign over the mail box at # 384.The full basement of our ranch style home is the showroom and workshop.
It's usually bursting at he seams with treasures from days gone by. Older solid wood furniture from thirty to one hundred and thirty years old. Still with all it's beauty and character, it has stood the test of time. With the right refurbishing it will last another hundred.
A test to days wood bi-product furniture will fail.
Whats available?
There is always a good selection of furniture for every room in the house. Beds, dressers, tables chairs, china cabinets, sideboards, rockers,& much, much, more.
Due to the demand for the service of refinishing most of the items in the showroom are as of yet not refinished. We have found that it's better to wait until sold, allowing the buyer to choose the colour and type of finish to match his or her style and taste.
If your looking for the beauty and character of older solid wood furniture, Doyle's might have just the thing.
Prices
The coast of buying older wood furniture in comparable to new department store furniture. The difference being, in fifty years the" older wood " can be refinished again. The "new" will be long gone.

The charge for refinishing various items varies greatly. It would depend on amount of damage , and type of wood used.
Pine , birch and the like are far cheaper than say, cherry or walnut.
On adverage:
a dresser would cost $ 200.00 ca.
rocking chair about $ 125.00 ca.
a table & 6 chairs $1000.00 ca.
Again comparable to buying "new", but will not stand the test of time.
