In 1998, Jim Hodges upset the political establishment of South Carolina by defeating, then governor, David Beasley. A new era began in South Carolina. A sense of "putting people first" swept the highest offices in South Carolina - a feeling that had not been felt since the administration of Gov. Richard Riley. Gov.
