What is Chrono Trigger?

So you are new here at Chrono Trigger Online! eh? You may have been surfing the net and accidently wound up here. Maybe you were trying to figure out what Chrono Trigger is, and looked it up and again, you found my site. Regardless of how you ended up here, I will explain here exactly what is this infamous Chrono Trigger.

Chrono Trigger is an RPG or Role Playing Game created by Square in 1995 for the SNES or Super Nintendo Entertainment System. An RPG is a game where you will follow the adventure of one individual. You start off with this one character and follow his or her experiences throughout the game. The character develops as the game progresses and gains strength and other powers. They meet other people who share the adventure and help out the main hero. It is usually a single player game with an extremely immersive plot line. RPG's have their own unique battle pattern involving a turn style much like a chess game, but with graphics and moves that would put a chess game to shame. It takes strategy to win at your battles, just like it does with chess. Most RPG's also mix puzzles with the needed battle strategy to make the game complex and challenging to the mind more so than anything. The storyline, as previously mentioned, is almost always exciting and immersive, making the game almost like watching a movie or reading a good book. You can never wait to find out what will happen next. In my opinion, RPG's are the best genre of game out there.

Considering that RPG's are my favorite type of game, I've played quite a few of them. From the Final Fantasy Series (which are also excellent games) to Super Mario RPG, I've enjoyed them all throuoghly. However, one game stands out for me as the best of all RPG's that I've ever played. That game is Chrono Trigger.

The game Chrono Trigger tells the story of a boy named Crono, who is pretty much your average teenager when destiny comes knocking on his door. That faithful day started off like any other. Crono's mom woke him up and he proceded to get ready for the Millenial Fair that was being held on that day. He walked out the door and headed to the fairgrounds to meet with his best friend Lucca, whom he promised to go to her unveiling of her lastest invention. On his way to the display, he bumped into destiny. This destiny was a young girl by the name of Marle. Soon Marle joins with you to see the sights of town. You end up taking her to see Lucca's device. All goes well for Lucca, surprisingly, until Marle asks to try out the invention. When Marle steps onto the pad, her pendant reacts with the Telepod to form a gateway that sucks her in and she disappears, leaving you and Lucca the responsablity of finding her. From then on their is never a dull moment as you quickly discover that these "Gates" are rips in time. Your adventure will take you all over time as you discover secrets that you never dreamed of in the past, present, and even the future. You will meet new friends and enemies as you race to stop the end of the world. Now I will give you the famous lines, if you want to know more about this game, you'll have to play it. I know it is cruel, but I don't want to spoil it for anyone who would now like to check it out. If you really want to know what happens to Crono and his friends and you don't want to play the game (which I can't imagine) you'll have to wait for me to put up the Storyline Section, which will hopefully be in another couple of months.

There are many reasons as to why Chrono Trigger stands out above all other RPG's. Number one is the storyline, which is excellent and will keep you playing long into the night thanks to its exciting plot twists and indepth characters. Number two is the moves and battle scheme which is one of the best I've ever seen. It combines the battle schemes of Final Fantasy and the Secret of Mana. Unlike that of the Final Fantasy Series, the battle is more interactive as you can witness the characters jump and strike the enemies, whereas in Final Fantasy the characters attack the air and somehow manage to connect with the monsters. The moves are awesome with cool graphic and powerful spells that make baddies beg for mercy. There is also a unique feature to Chrono Trigger which is the dual and triple techniques. These techniques are powerful attacks that combine the skills of two or three of your characters. You also have the battle meter from Final Fantasy 3 which shows your characters getting ready to attack. Number three is that the graphics are awesome for a SNES game. So what are you waiting for? Go out and play Chrono Trigger today. You just might get hooked too!
