Subject: JERIMIAH BAIRD

I recently bought some slave shakles imbossed with "JERIMIAH BAIRD, SAVANNAH SLAVE AUCTION". JERIMIAH BAIRD was most probably the owner. Would you happen to have any information on this gentleman. The date is 1874. Thank you.

Another reference I have: "The founder of the BAIRD family in America was Lieut. JOHN BAIRD, who came from Ayr, Scotland, arriving in this country after 1730. He was active in the Pennsylvania settlement as early as 1758. He married CATHERINE MCCLEAN of Chester Co., PA.

There is a tradition that the father of JOHN BAIRD held a commission in the British Army and took part in an expedition against Canada. He later returned to Scotland, where JOHN, the American immigrant was born."

From Coat of Arms p. 5.

There was a JOHN BAIRD of Topenemus, Mamouth Co NJ who came to the United States in 1683. MATILDA (a name in my family) was a common name in his family.

Subject: ANDREW BAIRD

Hello! I went to school at The College of Wooster in Ohio with ANDREW BAIRD. I think he graduated in 1983 or 84 (I graduated in '85). Somehow over the past year and a half we lost touch. I think he's now in the Washington D.C. area after having been serving in the Peace Corps in Africa for many years. Do you have any knowledge of his whereabouts. He has a wife and two children....Grant and Susannah.

Thanks for your help! DEANNA PEDEN
