Coffin face From the 18th dynasty ~1400-1300 bc

My favourite Piece of the Museum!!You can find it on the second floor amongst the Mumies and coffins of Egypt.

Unknown Antropoid coffin from 18 dyn.

When I saw this face, my stomach fell all down to my feets...This was totally unexpected for me to see here. This face awoken all my feelings of an ancient Egyptian detective. As many of you know Iīm hooked on the late 18 dynasty history...and Iīm searching for the lost clues of that History.

This mask from an unknown coffin bears clearly the trades of amarna period. Once upon a time this face would have been covered with gold...and the eyebrows would have been of lapis lazuli,,,the eyes would have been of precious stone...Looking out on You .Her face would have been surrounded by a wig of lapis Lazuli...colored blue like the hair of the gods.(All Goddess in Amarna and post Amarna had blue hair)And the rest of the cofffin would have a golden pattern with inlaid stones...Just like tutankhamunīs coffins you can see in Cairo.(look at my painting below...this could be like this face once looked)

Look at the mouth...and the almond eyes that would have precious stone inlaid when this coffin was ready for itīs owner.

The mask is done in east africa ebony, and itīs dark black brown as it hang in the museum..my photo was so bad so I had to lighten up the picture a bit..thatīs why it looks a bit lighter than in "real life".

The orgin of the antropoid coffin this face once was attached to is unknown...and where it was found is also covered in mist.

But I just had to look at the mask..to know emedietly..that this is one of the lost coffins from the time of Amarna or Tutankhamon.I reckognize the face...the style...the elusive romantic look...Do you see it?

This could have been the coffin of AnkhesenAmun/AnkhesenpaAton the Queen of TutankhAmun..is it her yeyes that look so dark out of itīs sockets on us? Is it her face that once laid beneith this beaty of gold and precious stone ?..Now totally removed by robbers ;ancient or present time thiefs.

This could also have been the coffin of Nefertiti, the queen of Akhenaton the famous sun King that overlooked all Egyptian Gods for his sole Sun God Aton( The noon aspect of the Sunīs travel on the sky).Could this be his famous beatiful Great Wife??Is it her soft mouth we see...is it her longing for peace that is painted over this face?..Iīm not sure...Nefertitiīs face had a more thin lip...and a more straight nose...but it could have been her coffin.I do see her maternal face glowing back from the mask...her serenity...

Or could this be Kiya..the elusive Minor queen of Akhenaten competing with Nefertiti of Pharaohs Love...?

I bet this coffin belongs to either Nefertiti or AnkhesenAmun.

My fantasy flies higher as I stand and looks at the astonishing eaty of this mask...and I think of a painting I have done of a Antropoid coffin once...

My Painting in black and white of AnkhesenAmunīs antropoid coffin face.

I have painted a female coffin of this period, by putting together trades of the Unknown coffin from Tomb 55 and the face of Tutankhamunīs golden mask.My goal was to find the way AnkhesenAmunīs coffin would have looked like...a mix between Amarna style and Tutankhamunīs facial looks. (Queens often bear the resemblens to the Pharaoh of that time...Especially in Statues paintings and Tomb material...

(Look at Amenhotep III tombs painting...all ladies there have his peculiar face)

Look at the face of this painting..and go up and look at the face of the coffin above...Do you see the resemblence of style??? I do...And my heart is pounding everytime I see this Photo of the destroid Coffin...still beatiful..still timeless.

Are your feet tired? No not allready!!I told you to weare comfy shoes...not that high heels !! come on now!!!
