Review
Synopsis: Akira is a movie about Tetsuo, a biker gang member with his friends in "Neo-Tokyo". Tokyo was destroyed in a bomb during World War III and there is a
revolution going on in Neo-Tokyo. Tetsuo, his friend Kaneda and two other members are having a motorcycle battle with the evil gang known as the "Clowns" when
an unfortunate accident happens!
Tetsuo has crashed into a boy with a mysterious power! The boy was running from the government when his protector was shot brutally and merciless to his gory
death. This boy's power, known only as "Akira" has somehow rubbed off on Tetsuo! So, having hospitalized Tetsuo, the boy is taken in UNHARMED by the
government's officials! In the hospital, Tetsuo finds himself awakened by horrible illusions, which ARE unexplained.
Feeling horrible after the pain and testing, he escapes the hospital. Meanwhile, the Colonel is performing experiments of his own~ testing No.27's psychic power
(patients with Akira are numbered by chronological order)! Once Tetsuo catches up with his girlfriend, he steals Kaneda's bike to take a vacation when unexpected
company shows up! It's the Clowns! Soon after, they beat up Tetsuo and his girlfriend. Kaneda finds them just in time to stop the Clowns, afterwards, Tetsuo
shows the Clown no mercy in a fury of punches and kicks.
Tetsuo passes out and the government picks him up again, only to go the hospital once more. Again, in the hospital, Tetsuo gets illusions but...WAIT! This one is
REAL! Takashi (The boy in the accident), No.27 (a small girl) and a weird man in a hovercraft with connections to the Colonel come to Tetsuo disquised as a toy
car, teddy bear and a bunny, only to find out that Tetsuo will not convert to the control and study of the government, but watch out! He's stronger than ANY
recorded being the Akira! And so, Tetsuo escapes once more, only this time with a few casualties...
Kaneda finds a girl named Kay and they start an underground movement to the revolution. This all ties in somehow, when Tetsuo escapes the hospital in a
haunting memory dawns him as Kaneda walks through the door! A memory of a young Tetsuo and Kaneda and how Tetsuo was always being made fun-of and
picked on, this time, Tetsuo's got the upper-hand with the help of Akira! Tetsuo flies off and his heart becomes darker and darker every minute! Kay's friend gets
killed by the mayor in a struggle to take his pills and Kaneda is saddened to find out that Tetsuo killed one of his friends!
Tetsuo, with hopes to find and kill Akira (the boy the power was named after) in order to become the strongest on Earth goes to the stadium where he is held. He
opens his container up and there are only jars in there with Akira's organs in them! Tetsuo, overconfident now, destroys the jars. Kenada gets a big laser gun with
rechargable battery and starts up his bike to confront Tetsuo! Meanwhile, the girl with Akira takes over Kay's mind and opens up HER Akira powers to help them
in the battle! And so, the battle begins! Kay takes on Tetsuo after he thrashes the city mistaken for the one and only Akira! Kay seems to be no match for the
powerful Tetsuo but then the Sol Sattelite takes her place! Having lost an arm, Tetsuo replaces it with a mettalic, scrap arm he made using Akira, then, Kaneda
arrives! The struggle continues and then, the worst thing happens, the battery for the gun runs out! After that, the most unthinkable happens, Tetsuo starts to
grow larger and his body becomes balloon-like! Tetsuo cries for help, only to kill his girlfriend on accident. the Colonel too, is lost. It seems NOONE can stop
Tetsuo's inflating, not even Takashi!
Akira finally appears, he creates a huge portal to save the city and Tetsuo! Takashi sacrifices himself to help Akira too. Tetsuo goes to the next world and the
city is spares with only minor damage. We find out that Tetsuo was too weak to control all that power and he used it for evil so his fate was sealed. Akira
disappears and that's the end!
Final Verdict: For a two and a half hour movie, it is REALLY good! This is my 3rd favorite movie of ALL TIME! If you've got the time, like complex story-lines and
have an imagination, add THIS movie to your anime collection immediately!

Well, there is a couple horribly gory scenes, the whole movie is based around killing and inhumane acts. Religion is a big concept in this movie but nowhere near as bad as Neon Genesis Evangelion. There is a very
brief nudity scene about 6 second long at most, also a couple objectional words here and there (like in the graffiti in the background of some scenes)...the ending is a biggie, is has an enlarged showing of the human anatomy
no bad parts) that is very gross. Basically, if you have trouble with religious scenes, don't like gore and object to bloated human beings, stay clear of AKIRA.
