Destiny came a calling the other day It seemed God was busy So it was my chance to say How I would like history To re written be All the “ifs” and “buts” Those many “perhaps” and “maybes” They were but simple obstacles Which now would cease to be The canvas clean and the easel brimming I was given the power of creation The greys to whites would turn The blacks now shimmering gold There was just this little catch I had to smile a week through So the frown upon my brow I did dispense My relaxed muscles now ached A colgate-smile I did deliver Yet the waking hour made me quiver Soon strangers about me friends became Daunting tasks I easily overcame Life became simple and living fun Surprisingly the week had just begun It soon dawned that God proposed It were mere mortals like us who disposed The power to smile and bring warm cheer Was just the thing to banish fear Destiny we need not change Or seek deliverance and ask for succor All one had to was smile sublime It made living worth the while So if you would smile and just say cheese You’d put humanity at deserving ease And then the colours on their own would flow I’d recognize you by your glow Poetry then would have lived its course For the poet in you would be reckoned with force. ~Vikram C~
