PERPETUATED TWILIGHT

I kept quiet when in my arms slept you

Not the remotest sigh escaped my lips

Lest the assurance of your sleep break

Your tresses curled and head upon my chest

I even heaved my gentle bosom so slowly

Careful not to shake your dreams so real

I questioned not while you did peaceful slumber

Craving for sleep which to me was an alien occupation

With aching eyes I saw moonbeams stealthily alight

And dance deftly upon thy serene visage

Counting glittering stars for sheep were scarce

I tried to hold back those empty tears

Though content to drink with these lips

The saline poison of a yearning, aching soul

All the while, not realizing, that it was I

Sedate in your arms, yet you were content

And me, the frail star, adrift in a galaxy of emotions

No sun to seek solace from or moonlight to bathe in

Just a dawning which burnt like a billion sunrises

And this parched heart, it seemed, turned Nova

Banished sleep for eternity, left me with tears

A volatile oil for this ember, called the heart

Consumed in the intensity of my love

A Titanic wreck, in a whirlpool of twisting dreams

And you walked on, said bye, hugging me

Yet I was left with nothing, but the cold air

Empty arms, a heart that was, a soul that couldn’t be

And all I do now is count those stars

The same that shine upon your backyard

For I know that even though life distanced us

Death will bring us together.
