PENANCE

In this desert of life I burn

Yet rain clouds forever taunt me

My eyes from a glaring sun I turn

Yet the darkness always haunts me.

Sleep to me is a distant luxury

Yet dreams dance upon my roof

Even happiness passes by in a flurry

With loneliness I stay not aloof.

I have no enemies to hide from

Save my immediate distant past

I too to destiny do belong

For in this world I last.

I tried to steal a little while

And nearly got away

And upon those memories I smile

A happiness which cannot stay.

Nothing will now cut

This life delivering show

For existence is nothing but

A death delivering blow.
