Destiny Defied She said she didn’t know what to say Not that I held the apology back Of course I’d said sorry – for loving her Her very being to me was glorious A million sunsets bedazzled Even her callousness was poetic An ocean I know had come between us Overflowing with saline tears A bridge which this life was a-begging So now we stand on separate shores Marooned by destiny Pulled back by society Yet sunsets live and die and live The tide comes in and goes out Nothing really changes Not even love Of course when I asked her To share my afterlife She said sure Funny thing love this It doesn’t let you live together Yet you yearn to die Only to be born again If life cannot bring us together I defy death to tear us apart. ~Vikram C~
