And Run But You Cannot Hide

Life with so many faces

Many alike yet few the same

To the touchline he races

Only to find the beginning of another game

A mad rush and people moving

Helter and skelter the crowd growing

Whereto and wherefrom and whyfore

The heavens above would only know

So huge the throng

The fire burning

Push me headlong

But you keep moving

Stamp and tread on me

Hit me and laugh at me

Break my heart but you run free

Hang me from the tallest tree

Skip on me as you would

Upon a boulder across a brook

And even if you tried you never could

See a sigh escape my look

And a frown you’d never see

Neither a curse would ever leave me

Even in stabbing all that would spew

Wouldn’t be blood but nectar and dew

No matter how much and how far

High noon or low tide

Blazing sun or distant star

Meandering river or ocean wide

You may run but cannot hide

From

Your dreams your shadow

From

Your past the future

From

The present

From you

Your now

Not a conquest

Neither a game

A round of roulette

Or backgammon tame

There is no peak

Nor a vale

Its not hide or either seek

Nor a temporary gale

A plateau would be amiss as well

And so would be the bottomless well

How far can you run from you?
