A Chance Encounter
I was walking down the side street A
neon light heralding the night The
day had been long and the hours taxing I
longed for the bed in my room The
hotel which now I called home Temporarily I
slipped into the sliding doors And
melted into the lobby My
parched throat pleaded for a drink And
drained senses called for nourishment So
into the bar my feet walked Merrily I
asked for a dark rum And
sat upon the bar stool I
shook the ice and squeezed the lemon Took
a generous swig and looked around And
there she sat in ethereal beauty Alone My
eyes caught hers I
drained the glass Asking
for a refill I contemplated And
then she smiled a knowing welcome I
found myself unsurprisingly beside Her I
talked about room service And
of delayed laundries I
told her about the relentless city And
traffic which ceased to be All
she asked was whether I would be interested for Dinner The
seafood chowder soup was amazing As
was the grilled red snapper The
chablis was a vintage one And
the baked alaska blazing She
asked me for coffee in her Room The
floor was five and carpet beige Her
room overlooked the pool The
sheets were drawn And
piped music sung The
coffee was Forgone With
fingers barely touching And
abated breath The
silence prevailed like a
shroud Since
two is company and three is crowd The
little table lamp went Out. ~Vikram C~
