+++++ HANDICAP UPDATE (Since August 1999)+++++

Yes, dear members, here is your handicap online:

Ladies Handicap   Mens Handicap

Hi, everybody out there, the season has started, President's trophy's Round One has been completed, enrolment for the annual shoot-out is on its way, so roll up and join.

Dear club-members, dear visitors to the Golf Club Whangamata:

Most of you know our newsletter, which is published every month and available in the Clubhouse. For those of you, who cannot come regularly to our courses, 18 holes at Titoki and 9 holes at Williamson, and enjoy the lovely environment, we are creating this page to let you, at least partially, participate in our activities. We might even inspire you, to spend your next weekend down here with us. The newsletters will be available from now on, keep this page on your selection of FAVOURITE webpage and stay in touch, by writing to us or giving us your feedback in any other way.

Your friendly host on site, Helge Günzerodt

Whangamata Golf Club Inc.
Newsletter 2000/2

With section and club opening days behind us, members will be looking forward to another season of golf. We hope everyone will gain maximum enjoyment from participating in the various activities. With the recent rains, the course should soon be in excellent condition—just great for that autumn golf.

Holes in 1

Congratulations to Murray Braithwaite for his ace on No 9 at Williamson on 1st March and Barbara Handley for her effort on Titoki’s No 11 during the 54-hole Classic. (You certainly know how to set off on a flying start in a tournament, Barbara!)

54-Hole Classics

Once again these events were a success. The organisers did really well in arranging great weather for both weekends this year. Special thanks must go to those who helped with these weekends.

Men’s Power Bilt Classic: Bruce Shirley and Bob Kilpatrick
Ladies Electrolux Classic: Judy Hart, Yvonne Walmsley, Eileen Dickson, Chris Archer and Thelma Beckett.

We also thank those many other people who helped in a variety of ways. The generosity of our sponsors helped to make these events so successful. Congratulations to the gross winners:

Men: Nick Davey 206 (won on the 1st play-off hole)
Ladies: Brenda Ormsby 212.

The best 18-hole gross rounds were Nick Davey’s 64 and Brenda Ormsby’s 66.

Rules of Golf

Members are invited to take part in Rules Courses to be run this year. Some of our members might like to participate. How well do you know the rules? There are two options:

  1. Waikato Golf Assn course. Details of this and application forms are on the main clubhouse notice-board at Titoki.
  2. Bay of Plenty Assn course. Details will come out soon

Calendar

Don’t forget: Coastguard Tournament Sunday 2nd April

Unfortunately two of our social events were missed from the booklet. Please note these dates in your copy.

Whangamata Motors Cup
30 July, 6 August, Spare day 13 August

Kevin Dufty Memorial Cup
24 September, 1 October, spare day 15 October—if not needed for the Championship Final.

Social Committee

A Social Committee has been formed. The aim is to develop more fully the social side of our club activities. Members are: Lynn Dickins (Convenor) Colleen McKay, Ann Monrad, Gillian Densem and Bill Wahlstrom.

The first two events planned are:

  1. Visit to Waihi Beach 9-hole course on 17th March for Men and Ladies. This is limited to 56 players. Tickets are available at Titoki and Williamson. (This follows a very successful day trip to Waihi by the ladies.)
  2. Social day on 21st May. Look out for details of this fun day.

Pennants results

The Men’s Senior Pennant Team had a very successful start to the new season. Playing at Waihi, Whangamata recorded a 7-3 win. Hopefully this is a good omen for the year’s representative teams.

From the courses

The Williamson clubhouse improvements are completed. We thank Rob Jamieson of CRS Jamieson Ltd for his excellent workmanship.

Anyone who is interested in giving occasional help to Heather Loe with the wonderful work she and Tony Ransom are doing to improve our environments is asked to contact Brian Pittams, 865-6278.

Good golfing to all.

Dick Wilson, Club Captain

Whatelse will be happening on the two courses in the new millenium??
