Stormy night

Night falls, another storm
the wind pushes at the trees
as the stars disappear 
blinking out one by one
thunderclouds form snakes of light
flashes expose the world
and for a moment
turn night to day
rain drums on the roof
and joins the bass roll of thunder 
this percussion, a step behind
the conductor's flashing baton
raindrops fall and join
in puddles, miniature lakes 
that appear in minutes
but are gone just as quickly
then the clouds pass by
and stars wink again
shining as the world returns
to a calm and cleansed night.
