Maron seems like an ordinary high school girl, but lives alone with Fin and is actually a secret agent of God. She is a re-incarnation of Jean D'Arc, and at night, she transforms to Kaito Jeanne to capture deamons who have possessed people. When she catches the demon, they turn into a chess piece. However the way she does this seems like she's stealing valuable paintings so people call her a thief - she throws a pin at the picture, and the demon goes inside it with the picture and turns into a ches piece. Later Jeanne replaces it with a picture of an angel.
Her best friend, Miyako, doesn't know that she's really Jeanne, and is always trying to catch Jeanne . This is because many people say that Jeanne looks like Maron. Miyako believes that Maron can't be Jeanne, and tries to capture Jeanne to solve that she isn't Maron.
Miyako feels a rivalry with Maron in both work and love. She really doesn't like Kaitou Jeanne because she's the daughter of two police officers and Kaitou Jeanne keeps 'stealing' beautiful artwork.
Miyako and Maron live in the same apartment building. Maron lives alone because her parents are working overseas. One day, they meet a good-looking guy who's moving into the same apartment building named Chiaki. Chiaki, has just entered in the same class as Maron and Miyako. They both thought that he was cute, but Miyako made Maron promise that she wouldn't get involved with him in terms of love.
One night, when Maron was doing her usual capturing, she meets Kaito Sinbad who tired to interrup Jeanne, and tried to get the demon himself. He seemed that he was a rival of Jeanne.
After a while, Maron and Chiaki starts to love eachother. Then, Maron finds out that Sinbad was actually Chiaki. So now, they are couples in the day, and rivals at night.
Jeanne asks her why Miyako always chases her instead of some other criminal, and Miyako says it's to clear her childhood friend's name, because everyone thinks that Jeanne and Maron look alike. Jeanne is stunned that Miyako has done everything up until now for her sake, and before Miyako leaves, asks her what she would do if Jeanne did turn out to be her childhood friend. Miyako replies, "I would cry." and leaves. Jeanne thinks to herself that she was with Miyako all the time and never noticed, and apologizes to her in her heart, thinking, "Jeanne is me, Maron..." and transforms back to Maron in the moonlight. A man is watching Maron, and she notices him too late. He says "Jeanne..." and she knows that he saw her transform!
He turned out to be Hijiri who became a teacher at Maron's school. He knew that Maron was Jeanne and Chiaki was Sinbad. He also knows where the demons are, and also can see the angels. He says that there is a boy in a hospital who is possessed by a demon. The next day, Maron and Fin look around the hospital for the possessed person. Maron wonders if it's a doctor or nurse when she's surprised by a boy running away from the nurses. He traps Maron and covers her mouth so she can't call his nurse, and tells her to keep quiet. However, his nurse finds them when Maron's pager goes off and brings the boy, Zen, back to his room. Apparently he had drugged the nurse and tied her up in an escape attempt. Zen tells the nurse to leave so he can have his afternoon nap, and Maron thinks that he's really impertinent. She wonders if it's possibly the influence of the evil spirit in the hospital. To their surprise, Zen can see Fin, and thinks she's a fairy like tinkerbel in Peter Pan. He asks her to let him fly, and is disappointed when Fin tells him she's an angel, not a fairy, and so can't grant wishes. Maron finds out from a nurse that his full name is Takazuchiya Zen, he's been in the hospital for 5 years, and he has a heart disease.
That night, Maron transforms and goes to the hospital with Fin. She tells Zen (who's sleeping) that soon he'll be better, once she gets
