The Huntsman

The Huntsman's eyes are pale, his voice deep, but soft and cultured. His shoulders are massive, with thick blond hair spilling over them, his form covered always in a coat made of pelts.

His brain contains Aristotelian logic, and it shows in his writings, thought he lives by one simple, but logical, quote: "Nothing escapes the Huntsman."

"I raise a thousand pheasents every year. I fatten them, I care for them in the winter when there is no food. From a thousand, perhaps two dozen will escape the hunt. That is as it should be. Everything must have a chance."

His birthplace is the village, just a 100 miles north of the Disenchanted Forest where he how resides in seclusion, working, and waiting, as always for his evil Queen.

"When I saw the Queen for the first time, I was still a Forester. She came to my village. It was a cruel winter and everyone was starving, children grubbing in the snow for roots to eat. She stopped her hunting party to water the horses. The Queen called me forward. She saw something in me."

His Queen gave him a crossbow made of wood and silver, with leather harnesses to hold many razor-sharp silver bolts for his hunting.

"When this crossbow is fired, the bolt will not fall until it has found the heart of a living creaturee. It cannot miss. In one day I could kill enough food to keep the whole village alive all winter. I said, 'What must I do to win this magic crossbow?' And she said, 'Just close your eyes and fire it whenever you wish, and it shall be your's.'

"I turned away from the village and all the people and fired deep into the thick of the forest. The bolt left the bow like gossamer. It sped a mile through the trees and killed a child playing in the forest.

"I remember the Queen's face as I pulled the bolt from my son's heart. She looked at me and said, 'You will be my Huntsman.'

"So you understand. I have no interest in mercy. The hunt is the only hting that interstes me. Life and seath are simply matter of sport."

From his hip he carries a silver mirror, unbrekable, that casts a protection against magic around him, his own strength and rezielency protecting him physcially.

Long ago, before the Queen, he was blessed with a spell of longlevity. Every cruel action he makes holds nothing against him, but every action for the good extends his life a few years more. And, though he looks only to be maybe 30 years of age, he's maybe 300...perhaps more...he has no reason to care about age anymore.

His mind is such that enchantments and charms are effectless to him. His strong will and determination are what keeps him going through what others may consider the impossible.

*Quotes taken from The 10th Kingdom by Katheryn Wesley*

The Queen's Mirrors: Mirror of Forgetfulness, though which all memories may be eraced. Though never complete, the power of the the next mirror cannot undo that of this.
Mirror of Remembrance, though which all that has been forgotten may be relived. This mirror allows a person to remember events that they wish to relive, like a war baron looking back over a lost battle to see what he did wrong, or over a sucessful campaign to recommit to memory what has worked before.
Mirror of Rulership, the sourse of the Queen's infinate raching power. If broken, she does not loose her power. It is simply like a funnel though which water passes, where it is forced into a smaller space, to strengthen its course.
Mirror of Spying, though which no action escapes detection. This mirror allows communication as well, but only works so long as there is another mirror, or still bit of water, or some other surfice of reflection, including glass and metel, though which the mirror may see (also the same mirror as the "Mirror mirror on the wall..."). Its powers may be warded against, so long as it is known.
Mirror of Travel, an instant teleportation to where you wish to be. This one does not require another surface, but, like the Mirror of Spying, it, too, can be warded against. Not often used, as it leaves the traveler traped within the transition itself for a brief period of time long enough that, if the mirror may be broken in any way, the person become traped forever within the "inbetween."
