The Piano, directed by Jane Campion and starring Sam
Neill, Holly Hunter, Harvey Keitel and Anna Paquin
is an award winning and highly acclaimed film.
Ok, I like this film but only because Sam is in it!
I find Holly Hunter's character an unpleasant person
throughout the entire film and I am totally
unsympathethic. I know you think it's because she
rejects our Sam and you may be partly right, but
I didn't like her even before I was a Sam fan!
And as I said, how can she resist this cutey?
Here is our Sam with a very cute grin! I have to say
I am not into the sideburns, but I can live with it I guess.
There are many schools of thought on the casting in this
film. Many think Sam should have been cast as Baines
and Keitel should have been Stewart. I tend to think
it's more a comment on low self-esteem, Ada and Stewart
both suffering, and Baines very sure of himself. This makes
him more attractive to Ada. On another level, Ada's
self-esteem problems have caused her to place a great
deal of importance on the piano so, whoever has the piano
gets the girl.
