Full of psychedelic musical references, The Papas & the Mamas could be thought of today as the sound of a great group coming apart at the seams. Vaguely hinted at in the track "Midnight Voyage, " great songs were sacrificed because the group couldn't (or wouldn't) get it together enough to make them perfect. It's a shame, too, for there are some great tunes here. And it's not that the performances are bad, it just that they sound tired, directionless. This was the last release before they broke up.
