With that off my chest I can tell you about my week. Suran's 21st birthday was good - lots of strange PhDy and scientificy people and Alexander - a guy Suran was at school with when they were ickle and 2 other guys Suran was at Rugby with. Not the sport, the school. There were 2 other women (girlfriends/wives of the scientificy people who were also scientificy people - bizzare how they attract to each other). Lots of food, music and stuff, followed by talking till 4am.
Sunday Dave and I went to see Jools Holland. The Medieval Babes were supporting, so I couldn't stop Dave drooling much. Chris Holland's hair needs changing - he used to be so cute and now he looks like his brother in his younger days - go back to your white T-shirts with red sleeves babe. Then Oh my God - Chris Difford comes on stage - at least two of the guys from Squeeze are talking - I think they just rotate. He sang Up the Junction (which made me feel weird and spookey and I don't want kidsy - story behind that, but not going into it). The Medieval Babes became just Babes as they turned into backing singers and a really sureal moment when Sam Brown was singing and Dave and I had only been talking about her the day before - I remember her being blonde - maybe I'm halucinating, maybe it's just a lot of peroxide.
Monday to Wednesday, people at Wrox were at a conference that the company had organised on ASP. I got to go down to London to the conference on Wednesday. I managed to get on the same train as the others from Birmingham, but there were several mishaps from the start - Pete missed the train - well, he was at the station, in fact, he was on the platform, but he went to stop the train while the others got the tickets and the others got on the train at one end and didn't see Pete at the other end still on the platform. The Conference was quite good actually, got to meet some of these people that I've been emailing and get to see what they look like - most of them it was a disappointment (but they probably thought the same of me). Isn't email great, you get to paint your own picture of what the other person looks like, of course disapointment is inevitable when you meet them in real life. Sat through 3 and a half lectures/talks/presentations - whatever you want to call them. The first one was about computers going to save the world and end 3rd world poverty and he ended the presentation by playing a song from Les Miserables (which was sureal for me, cos in American Psycho they keep mentioning Les Mis and I wanted to ask if it was the American or British version.) I also went around talking to lots of programmery people asking them to be reviewers for us. Towards the end I thought - got to get some decent looking reviewers, so I went up to a pretty dishy guy and it turned out he was just a technical assistant at the conference - ah well - I did get a couple of bankers from the City which isn't too bad! Dave called in the middle of the last and rather boring talk, so I was glad to leave the room. Then back home again.
I've seen an amazing red dress (not prostitute red - kind of shiney) with slits down the side, but they go all the way down the side, so you can't wear any underwear with it. Have to decide if I've got the guts to wear it for my what was going to be black and strokey party, but will now be a somewhat gothicy party which will eventually be a come as you are as a friend party next week. If not, there is the silver dress with the slits only going halfway down the dress. And I've seen the shoes to match with both of these dresses, so I'm in a bit of a dilemma. Ah well I'm sure I'll make an impulse purchase! Jon's apparently got himself an outfit - apparently he's going to look like a character from a comic. This should be fun. I'm cheating and doing Italian food again - mainly cos I can't think of anything else to make - but it'll be different to last time hopefully. I'll still end up cooking for 50 instead of 11!!
I finished reading American Psycho this morning. Maybe I'll read something girly next - A Kathy Lette book me thinks. Something a bit more relaxing and less mind corrupting. I still twinge when I think about some of the stuff I read in that book. "A girls night out" sounds like a good change of book. Ahhh there's a crack in my nail. Tragedy (with hand movements!)
Mum and Dad are flying out to Sri Lanka this weekend - Mum got her ticket sorted in the end.
Better do some work - still catching up from missing a day on Wednesday.
