Wednesday 11 August

I've been so busy today. It's probably the fault of the eclipse this morning - we did spend a lot of time watching people trying to get reflections of the sun via small mirrors on the office wall, and then around 11am, we went up on the roof (trying to remember where I know that song from, but that's irrelevant!). Then we tried to watch the eclipse through buckets of water, puddles of water, these glases that they've invented especially for the eclipse and tried the mirror again, and found that we couldn't get the pinhole effect to work through the leaves of trees as it had been shown on some TV programme on the subject! But, it was pretty disapointing - after all the hype, I kind of expected it to get a bit darker, and to see birds going mad, but it was cold up there. So glad I didn't go all the way to Cornwall for the experience - it was really cloudy there apparently.

I thought I had this job sussed out, and that all these wonderful authors and reviewers would be really good and nice to me and hand all their work in on time. Now I see why my teachers got angry with me when I kept saying I'd forgotten my homework. I guess you can't expect people to have deadlines and actually work to them! I mean, the excuses they come up with after several emails trying to harrasse them - I mean, one of the authors is moving to China - what kind of an excuse is that? Another one had a family emergency - aint it great? Ah well, the job's coming together at last!

I started writing this piece about my meningo encephalitis - the illness I had when I was around 6 years old, and I realised just how little I know about it - I mean, I don't even know what treatment I had. Of course I can't even remember getting ill or anything much before then. It's bizzare. I'll let you read it one day. But I'd better do some more research before then!

Uncle Sunny can't come to the party on Saturday now - he hasn't got his passport back yet. It's such a shame - I was really looking forward to seeing him and Peter again. Ah well, they are going to come and visit us once they have the passport. Of course, by then the weather will be rotten!

My brother seems to have settled into Cambridge University. He sounds like he's having fun. I want to work somewhere with a bar across the road where everyone you work with hangs out afterwards. Yeah yeah there's pubs around here, but no 'bars'!! You need a really good bar, you know. I mean that's usually the central focus of most TV shows and films. Everybody should have one!!

My life's really quiet in the evenings now I've finished Uni. I'd better start looking for a project to work on. The only thing I can think of at the moment is doing a database for authors and reviewers to make it easier to find people to do the work!
